eBay rounding up illogical

I love the way eBay round up seller feedback. (not)

In the summer I had 3 of my stars running at 4.96 or above but only showed 4.9 on my full dashboard. Surely rounding up should mean I showed 5?

I still have 2 stars showing in excess of 4.5 but still only show 4.9 overall.

Silly whine I know, but it is not logical. No doubt my stars will slip over Christmas so I will lose the high percentage at next evaluation anyway, but it would have been nice to see at least one 5* on my main dashboard for a short while? Other sellers show a 5* so why can't I?

    It is weird.

Sometimes if I'm running at 4.96, the stars show at 5.0, and then the next day it's still 4.96, but the star shows 4.9

Even more bizarre, I have 3 stars showing 4.97 and one 4.95 but 2 show 4.9 and 2 show 5.0!

To be honest, I'm more worried about a potential DSR saboteur in the form of a US buyer, who bought an item 10 days before Xmas and is already whinging about how disappointed they're going to be when it doesn't turn up in time.

It is enough to make you weep isn't it?

The German non payer I posted about 9-10 days or so ago still has not paid, he has bought one more BIN item but has made no more contact and I have virtually no auctions running that are anything like the ones he has already bought. After he won my first item he responded to my email saying he was going to bid on something else- and that's the last I heard.

So I don't know what to do, I have emailed asking if he is still waiting for anything of mine to finish (even though I think the stuff wasn't listed when he bought the first item) . If he does pay the stuff isn't going to get there for Christmas and I don't have time to relist and sell again.

I am thinking it best to wait until 4 days after the recent BIN was bought (and that should have been an imemdiate payment required so I don't know how he got it without paying) and then start NPBs on both items? This buyer is still buying and still leaving and receiving feedback and is around 4700+ now.

As a buyer I'm wary of a wall of 5's - Under 4 is a warning flag, but perfect 5's suggests artificial inflation to me - I'd rather see high 4.x's than 5's!! :-$

What gets me is that when you view a star on something like the iPad eBay app you don't get a numerical read out by hovering over it and even a 4.95 seems to grey out almost all of one point of the star.

You wouldn't buy from me then, I've had straight 5's and all my ratings have been genuine.

I'm just wondering how anyone would artificially raise their stars, have I missed something vital or does someone not actually understand what they are?

I would always buy happily and with confidence from a seller showing 5*.

In much the same way as people have always upped their ratings - list valueless items for 1 cent, then have sockpuppetfarm accounts buy them and leave perfect ratings (no need to ever deliver the items). If done with a free listing then the end sale value fees (even at 10%) are negligible.

If a seller goes to all this trouble to artificially massage their stars, perhaps they should use all the time and trouble they have undergone to become a better seller, and actually earn those stars.

Same here, I guess sellers just can't win sometimes!
