Anyone recommend an In car camera? (not too dear!)

Hello...after reading some of the posts on here about accidents and how difficult it can be to prove fault in an accident(and by an incident when I was nearly hit head-on by a chain of cars overtaking a cyclist...the last one simply followed the herd and was amazed to see me (patiently now stopped) on my side of the road) I am looking for a decent but not too expensive in car camera for some protection. One with a memory card for preference. Any ideas?

I will second the choice of "Roadhawk"

Had it for just over two years. No problems.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

    I must add.

It is not intrusive. I have had to point it out to people inside and outside the car.

Go on youtube a guy with the username techmoan.

He reviews some. Depends if you want a proper car DVR or just a small compact camera.

Have a watch he reviews the good and bad points.

Dont forget if its going to be left in the car and its visible it will go walkies.

And you will probably need to carry a spare window.

  • I've been tempted by one of these recently.

For £35 it plots your position using GPS whilst also recording video. Looks pretty good from the video in this: http://youtu.be/8YeTcNzdbT8

  • I have one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Motion-Detection-Car-DVR-Recorder-Camcorder-Accident-Vehicle-Dashboard-Camera-/200717447970?pt=US_Surveillance_Digital_Video_Recorders_Cards&hash=item2ebbb13322
The same seller also does a HD version. It's fairly basic but suits my requirements. A 32Gb micro SD card, not too expensive now, will accommodate hours of video.

I can't recommend ebay for this stuff anymore, they've become really popular and the Chinese sellers have started marketing some real trash on there, it's extremely hard to find one that does the job these days.

On a side note, actual branded compact HD video cameras are now nearly as cheap as many of the dash cams.

Bowling 4 gold. Yep he tested one of those. The mounts crap and lots of wires.

Special software required to read the videos though. And when you export the video there is not GPS data.

So a bit of yes but no... As with most of them it seems.

Had a bump in the car this afternoon when someone pulled out of a line of traffic and cut a corner into the junction I was comming out of.

He said that we could exchange details but he would not admit liability.

I showed him the camera in my windscreen and explained how it worked (Posts 3 & 4)

Got home 45 mins later to a phonecall from his insurers admitting full liability.

(I should add that I am in my early 80's and at that age you are usualy blamed for any accident you are involved in)
