As you say whether we believe anything produced in the media, left or right, it is always good to be able to view an alternative perspective to any argument.

If you simply rubbish someones opinion it doesn't progress the debate or help your argument.

  • Plenty of people would be happy if the Daily Mail was the only newspaper that existed in the UK.

Personally I don't agree with the rag, or the views of it's readers that are regularly regurgitated over this board, but I don't deny their right to read it, or state that every newspaper I disagree with should close down.

It would be nice if they manage to mature to a place in their lives where they don't want to read the Mail; but I accept for many people here they will never grow that much.

    Mature as in develop.

I think most mail readers have matured age wise - one foot in the grave media.

Next we will get commentary from This England.

And the recipes are sometimes jolly good. My Mum still uses a Christmas Pud recipe she got from The Guardian in the 1970s.

But apart from that, what did The Guardian ever do for us..?

LOL. The Guardian is the Fox News of the Left!

It is bigoted, happy to produce 'news' selectively to demonstrate how right they and all their readers are, demonise anyone that disagrees and aggressively pursues a dogmatic agenda with an aim of a particular political end.

I thought it was hillarious that the Grauniad got so het up about the Petraius/Fox News thing. They'd have Toynbee put in as PM in a heartbeat if they could. They even asked their readers to interfere in a US Presidential campaign and boy did that backfire!

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2004/oct/18/uselections2004.usa2

This was one of the more measured, reasoned replies that could be shared on a family website:
Shame on you for using the people of Ohio like this. The US presidental election isn't just about foreign policy, it's about healthcare, taxes, education, transportation, natural resources and all manner of issues with little to no impact on the people of Britain.

We live in a globalised, interconnected world. If China shuts its borders to US imports, you better believe American companies, shareholders and workers are affected. Should US citizens therefore have a direct say in Chinese policies? No - Americans should demand that their own elected leaders address the issues with their Chinese counterparts. The British have a similar voice in US policies - through your own elected representatives who have any number of diplomatic, economic and military tools at their disposal. You vote for your leaders and we'll vote for ours. Your problem is with your leaders, not ours.

This is a reply that only an idiot would share on a family website such as this:
KEEP YOUR F_CKIN' LIMEY HANDS OFF OUR ELECTION. HEY, SH_THEADS, REMEMBER THE REVOLUTIONARY WAR? REMEMBER THE WAR OF 1812? WE DIDN'T WANT YOU, OR YOUR POLITICS HERE, THAT'S WHY WE KICKED YOUR A__ES OUT. FOR THE 47% OF YOU WHO DON'T WANT PRESIDENT BUSH, I SAY THIS ... TOUGH SH_T!

    Ooh and another:
Keep your noses out of our business. As I recall we kicked your [bottoms] out of our country back in 1776. We do not require input from losers and idiots on who we vote for in our own country. [Fuss] off and die [ackhole]!!!!!

I wonder what the Guardian would think if Fox News launched an aggressive campaign in marginal seats in the UK to swing an election?

The assumed moral superiority of Guardianistas is one of the joys of contemporary Britain. So secure in their belief that they are better than everyone else.

Quite how they reconcile such elitism with their faux egalitarianism and love of the proles (oops!) is priceless. The resulting cognitive dissonance must explain why 'progressives' always seem so angry.

The problem with The Guardian isn't that its left wing, its that it isn't left wing enough. They're too afraid of upsetting their neo-liberal paymasters so never agitate for meaningful change.

Managed and enforced redistribution of wealth is the only thing that will save this country now. Its the only answer, its the obvious answer, its the answer that would benefit 93% of the country, but they don't say it.

Polly Tyonbee is one of those who espouse the virtues of state education, whilst quietly sending her kids to fee paying schools, who wants council planning to mix poor folks amongst the rich just so long as its nowhere near her neck of the woods. She is truly one of the worst kinds of champagne socialists.

That having been said, the Guardian does provide some good and indeed ground breaking news, however its politics and economics is so thoroughly biased and based in the labour land of the money tree its not worth the paper its printed on. Larry Elliot must vie with Anatole Kaletsky as the most stupid economic commentator in the UK.

I'm astonished. This is like someone calling for a return to Nazism.

Marxism and Nazism are both old, failed ideologies. Millions were murdered in their names and I will fight to my last breath against both groups.
