My daughter and I have just had a wonderful afternoon in our new local shop.
Our local skip site has opened a "Shop" (old garage) in the town selling all the good stuff that people have dumped. What a brilliant idea!!!
My daughter has been desperate to get a farmhouse table and chairs, but couldnt afford secondhand let alone new, but what did we find? a table and chairs for £18 fantastic. It made me wish I was setting up home again.
Do other areas do this? If not why not?
I know there is the wonderful freecycle, but not everyone has heard of that.

I wish we had one as we have about 3/4 skip companies round here. My friend got a couple of weeks work at one once and got all sorts , one of her best finds was a carpet shop closed down and filled a skip with loads of rolls of carpet!0

I dont think we have one in our area.
My dad works for a well known place (cant mention the company) and occasionaly he's called to do house clearance's. You'll be surprised what he's picked up. Anything from golf clubs, furniture, phones, tv's, lights & fittings old white country style kitchen sinks, doll's houses. The list is endless!
Its the same with well known high street stores, Debenhams for example. My ex brought home 3 huge solid pine tables once. One we used for a dining table, 1 for the computer and the 3rd for a coffee table. They was in the skip, he asked what was wrong with them - reply - nothing! They was ex showroom display furniture and no longer required. They was immaculate!
It grieves me to see people throw things away! BUt having the "skip" shop is a great idea!Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure0 -
People from our local tip take what is brought in that can be sold to car boot sales. Have spotted the van there several times. One day I might be more organised...........

Oooh where are you in Cornwall, that sounds brilliant, just give the general location if you don't want to give your whereabouts on here and I'll guess. I'm in Trago land on the south coast!0 -
I really hate to be mean, but wonder what happens to the profit? Skips these days are horrendously expensive. I would be very unhappy to find that as well as paying a premium to the skip companies, that they were also profiting from my junk. I would be much happier, for people to take from my skip, gratis (leaving it tidy of course).0

Sorry in my exitement I dont think I have explained myself well
When I said skip I meant as in local area where you drive and dump your stuff in skips. Not where people have hired skips for house clearence etc

Great idea!
My local council has just opened up a recycling centre at the local tip, it's for things that are ok and working but the owner didn't want kinda thang, they do them up and sell them for a minimal fee which goes back into the site, hoping to bag me some nice furniture in the next few weeks, it's a smashing idea I think :j0 -
ohh balmaiden could you tell me where it is as i know you live in cornwall too! the best thing ever i got from a skip was given to me by a friend! he called in for coffee and presented me with 2 jamaican ginger cakes both wrapped and then wrapped together in a twin pack, as i was cutting them up and distributing htem round my large family and friends he excitedly told me he had got them out of the skip behind a local shop!! they were only going out of date that day so obviously .....................we ate them!! other friends say they having been eating out on this story for weeks now!!! and in fact ginger cake has now become a must at all our bbq's ect!Member 1145 Sealed Pot Challenge No4
