Scart leads best to buy quality or cheap ??

Since I connected up to my tv my dvd, video and set top box my picture and sound quality is very poor when viewing through the set top box, also when playing a dvd the sound is so quiet I cannot hear the programme. Question - there are different quality scart leads - I bought the cheapo ones thinking a scart lead is a scart lead, but I see you can buy gold scart connection leads, doea anyone know whether these will improve my picture and has anyone one else had my problem, and if so, how did you fix it ??

I don't think it will fix all of your problems, (the quiet DVD thing sounds like something else) but getting better scart leads really *does* make a difference. I'm not really much of a buff for spending loads of money on cabling, but you *can* see the difference in picture quality between a 99p scart lead and a £20 one. I think much beyond the £20 mark you'll start getting increasingly marginal gains, but it's def. worth getting half decent ones for optimum picture/sound.

Thanks for that swift reply Idio - I don't think I spent anywhere near as much as 99p !!

  • Which Set top did you buy?

Their pass through circuit may well be poor , it might be cheaper to go for a better model, What Hi-FI this month recommend the Bush DFTA 11 (rrp £30 ie can find it cheaper) and the Humax F2-Fox-T (rrp £70 ie can find it cheaper).

Also have a gander at these boys I know a bit but these are the boys to ask for help, register first so you can post but give them a go they've helped me plenty before.

(A/V as in Audio Visual by the way)

I bought a QED s-vhs lead to feed between my £80 Panasonic DVD player and my Telly and it was amazing the difference so it can really help, but a great lead is onaly as good as the signal coming out of the Freeview box and I would say that is where you problem is, unless you're aerial is fubar'd.

    Good Luck again

Some SCART leads don't have all the pins connected. I had to change my SCART leads when I bought a new DVD recently.

The top box i've got is a Digilogic - can't tell you whether it was a good one or not as it was bought for me as a present. Anyway, will grab myself a better set of scart leads and see what that does - thanks
