Bal Whitestar is definitely the stuff you want

not necessarly it depends on type & size of the tiles

Yes, the tech sheet says it is not suitable for larger tiles. I know because some muppets used it with large tiles on my walls.

  • Bal are normally a very good adhesive but if your tiles are 400mm of bigger, or depending on the material you will need a sufficient adhesive for the extra weight and size.

that is one of the reasons, but more importantly tubbed addy uses air to set & if the tiles are large it's only the outside edges that set the rest of it won't go off meaning they aren't fixed to the wall as they should be, whereas bagged addy sets via a chemical reaction

as always with forum posts and emails, it depends how you read em.
I took keystones post as funny and helpful (along with dead right!)

problem is we see a lot of 'builders' doing tiling. Builders do a lot of different trade work, and some do all very well. A lot dont.

If your builder has asked you to buy adhesive and not specified then as keystone says, how does he back his work up? also the fact he's not asked you to buy tanking materials suggests he's not going to tank it.

For the record, both of those choices would be bad ones IMO.

but like the above poster says, it depends on tile size & type

Is there any need to be so aggressive?
Oh thats not being aggressive. You want aggressive?
I'm asking 'cos I don't know, so stop pretending anyone who is not as well versed as you is an idiot.
The idiot is not you. Other people have read my post correctly and in the way it was intende. Don't be so sensitive. Your builder is most likely an idiot for putting you in the position where you have to ask and not explaining to you properly what work he is doing and why he is doing it. He is an idiot if he's not specifying the materials he wants you to buy. He is an idiot if he's not supplying adhesive and grout in his privce. Did I mention that he's probably an idiot?
I don't even know what 'tanking' the shower means, so this is little use to me.
That wasn't for your benefit, The idea was that you ask the builder and if he just looks blankly at you then you know its time to get a proper tiler in.
    Rude jerk
Don't seem to recollect that I was being insulting. On readreading it I can understand that you might have taken my post the wrong way and sorry if you did but you are very clearly in the minority. BTW If your reply is going to consist of more insults I suggest you don't bother.

    Cheers
