Iphone 3G - updating IOS

Hi

I am temporarily using an iphone 3G as my other phone is knackered.

I notice that the Iphone 3G is not supported by any ios upgrades over 4.2.1. This means I cant download many apps (or any apps)

Does anyone know if there is a workaround?

No there isnt (however you can jailbreak it)

You won't be able to update IOS as the problem is the Iphone 3G's processor which is a different type to the Iphones that came after it and as it's not compatible, Apple stopped supporting it after IOS 4.

I'm not familiar with the technicalities, but I have successfully upgraded two 3GS to ios6. They are both unlocked, but know nothing about jailbreaking.

Although there is only a single letter difference in the name, the 3GS uses a different type of processor (ARMv7 type, cortex A8 processor) to the 3G (ARMv6 type, ARM11 processor) so the 3GS is still supported while the 3G and 2G are not.
