yea I now lots of people have far worse jobs, but I have a life outside of work.if I went for a job n they said u would be on standby I wouldn't do it n if they said u won't be getting paid , then I would work in a charity

By all means refuse to do it and you'll soon be free to look for other work.

yea one week in eight for now but this is a long contract it can easily change to one in two. yea I'll be Contacted my my works mobile phone, I'm a member of unite

Get on the phone to your full time officer and seek assistance to resolve.

I'd especially get clarification on the consolidation - does this infer the stand by allowance has attracted ot payments if its been included in your hourly rate?

Who was involved in the original negotiation/ agreement and where is the supporting documentation and more importantly why do the guys know nothing about it.

  • yea the other 7 have seen the red mist aswell, but it's very hard to get everyone together to stand up n speak out

yea on Monday I want to know what percentage of my salary is standby,I know it's a lie due to people have been called out in the past before this Rota was announced n there were paid a none standby call out fee, there r two employees who r not on the Rota due to they have an older contract n standby wasn't included, but there salary is the same as ours, shorly they should be on less money

You really don't get it. It doesn't matter whether a percentage of your salary is already paid for standby. Your contract includes this so the only question is whether the payment brings you below NMW. And what other employees who agreed their contracts before you started working there agreed is not your business. This is in your contract. You therefore have nothing at all to argue, You agreed to it.

When you took your job you signed the contract. It is assumed in law that you have read all terms and conditions when you have signed it.

You have done exactly that: Signed a contract of employment.

Your employer is now invoking a clause in your contract. But instead of acknowledging this and accepting it as part of your terms and conditions, you have decided to throw your teddy out of the pram.

I can't help thinking here are 1000's of unemployed people who would happily change places with you at the moment.

If you want to be taken seriously - then I hope your requests are written in English not in text speak.

Anyway - I'd just be a bit careful. If your wages include money for standby for one in every 2 weeks; and you are only doing one in 8, then they may reduce the wages to compensate [if you annoy them too much].
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

Why do you have to be near to home.

The requiremen will likely be a response time.

1week out of 8 works out at about 6 a year, you get a minimum holiday entitlement of 5.6 week so book these around your call out weeks, problem solved.Who provides cover if one of you are off?

I work as an electrician I've been with my company for 6yrs.they have won a new contract that expects a breakdown response 24/7.my company has now put us on a Rota in which I have to be on standby 1 week in every 8 weeks.we get £25 for taking the call and time paid on the job.we don't get paid once my daily shift ends I.e if u don't get called on ur rest periods u don't get paid even tho I'm available to take the call.my company says standby money is already consolidated within my wages, but I've never seen this broken down I'm my wage slip.my complaint is I don't want to do the standby, nothing has been negotiated, I think.that on my rest periods I'm available for FREE, and after my daily shift am I not intiltiled to 11hrs rest, ANY HELP WOULD B GR8
7.5!Standby Arrangements ! You may be required at some time in the future to participate in a standby rota, the frequency of which may be revised without compensation, to be determined by operational requirements, details of which will be provided by your manager. ! For the avoidance of doubt, any standby arrangements do not form part of your contract of employment and may be amended from time to time at the Company's discretion

The best advice that I can give is:

    - If you're not happy with the employment terms (which appear to be backed up in your contract), I suggest that you hand in your notice, and look for another job.

Will be interesting to see if your 7 colleagues back you up and also resign
