I am going to send a note into her teacher asking her to contact me to find out what is going on because it doesn't ring true that she won't be able to take her exam until the year after next.
I will have a look at booking her exam myself. I hope to get her in fairly close!

    talk to the teacher first.
It could be that she is advising to skip grade1 altogether!
If your daughter doesn't need the confidence of going through the grades one by one, you can skip some.
Just to warn you, they get more expensive every time!

I will ring the council on Monday and try to get hold of her but I don't think it will be easy. Funnily enough, DH said he was going to start looking into it earlier this evening when I got up and I said I'd put this message up here.
He has considered private lessons for both kids but I don't know how that would work as they're at differrent stages. Another one to ask the teacher if I can locate her :)

I'd save yourself some money and skip grade 1 altogether. My youngest son did piano and he went straight in for grade 3 and then 5. My oldest son plays guitar and he just did 5, 7 then 8. He also teaches guitar for a living now so money well spent I think;) Both of mine had private lessons as I wasn't that impressed with the school lessons.

That shouldn't be a problem; 2 of my kids have lessons with the same teacher, one after the other; one is at grade 2, the other just passed grade 7!
Piano teachers are also easy to find, unlike some less popular instruments.

  • Agree with most of the others. Different instrument for me but I went in at Grade 5, so it hardly matters whether she sits Grade 1 or not.
