Scottish Power Changed my account to Standard but only did an estimate from that date

Scottish Power changed my account from a discounted Online to Standard (Problems with direct debit my fault). They did not take a reading when they switched my account so my final bill only shows an estimate reading. I believe with a standard account readings are their responsibilty. Do i have grounds to complain about the bill or do i have to accept it.We are probably not talking a huge amount but i wonder how much do they actually make when they do this.

Where did you hear that? I do not believe it to be true. Urban myth perhaps?
Anyway, whenever a bill is received containing a current estimate, if you provide a valid actual reading in the billing window the estimate will be withdrawn and replaced with your reading.0 -

they may have actually lost, if they over estimated and gave you too many units at the cheaper rate.
As already stated, always check estimated readings.0 -

Suppliers don't usually arrange a meter reading everytime a customer tariff or their price changes.
What grounds do you think there are for a complaint?
And what evidence to you have to support one?
Shame you didn't supply the supplier with a meter reading at the time. The meter is on your property, not the supplier's.0 -
cant you read your meter?Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

newbie1001 we will attempt to read the meters at least once per year but in the absence of any customer supplied readings we will estimate for a change of tariff. If you e-mail your up to date readings and account details I can check that the estimates we used were accurate. If you left us it is the new supplier's responsibility to request a reading from the customer to be used at transfer. In the absence of a customer read an estimate will be used that is usually based on reading history provided by the old supplier.
