Security camera for inside car

My front and rear windscreen wipers have been stolen twice in the last few months, both occasions were at the weekend, I think it's by drunk people walking past on their way home.

My neighbours car has been damaged a few times as well, i haven't contacted the police, neither has my neighbour. i don't suppose there is much they can do.

Does anyone know of any small camera that i can hide in the car so i can catch them in the act?
Also is it legal?

The chances of you finding something that catches them, especially in the dark, are slim. And if they see it, you may get a window put through on top. Even if you get a picture, don't expect anyone to follow it up. Have they used a spanner?

No, they just took the wiper blades!
i brushed it off as kids having a laugh drunk, cost me a small fortune to replace but the second time i was on my way to work on Monday, i didn't realise they were gone until i needed them

I think it may be easier to fix up a camera in the bedroom window looking out to the car.
But even if you got a good picture, would you go around and confront them; would the police get involved ?

How did you know i had a Yaris?
  • Car doors have locks, petrol flaps have locks, alloys have locks but the safety thing that clears your windscreen can be nicked by anyone.

    Pointless isn't it.

if they are just taking the rubber bits, refill kits are cheaper, but fiddly to fit - unless it's someone with a vendetta, or a toyota yaris, it may just be a passing fad, so buying spares in case, may be a waste of money, it could be a mirror next time or may never happen again

I live directly opposite a school entrance, i don't think parents would be to pleased with a camera pointing out my bedroom window!

and yes i would definitely go and confront them.

Used to know a bloke who had a camera and a wireless video sender (like you use to send sky TV to another room) in his car.

    The other option's a dashcam.

Legality? I've never heard a definitive answer. My big van has CCTV onboard and "CCTV in use" stickers. The council's CCTV van that they park up to video the local ASBO candidates doesn't seem to have any more warning on it.
Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?

  • Depending on where you live, it is at least worth pointing out to your local police what's happening. Not going to do much on an individual case, but if there's a rise in car damages in your area, they are more likely to swing by your way more often. Chances of catching, 0! Flood lights/security lights?

Hopefully it won't become TOO frequent, or you'll have to stock up on spares, or keep taking them off on the night time. 0_o
