Hey all.
When getting your deposit back after leaving rented accomodation.... does it take time for it to come released from the deposit schemes.
My landlady has said "I have to request the money as it is in a secure client account. This should be released by the end of the week, so should be in your back account week commencing the 24th"
Does this sound about right?
Thanks

I left a rented property 3 months ago.
I moved out, they checked the property about 3-4 days later.
2 days after that they released the funds.
3-4 days later it was showing in my bank.
All in all we were close to 2 weeks. It wasnt an issue for me as i was purchasing so i didnt have to put down a deposit on a new rental place i already had my deposit for the purchase so i wasnt really pressing them to do it sooner. I imagine you could potentially get it done in a week or so but your relying on the letting agent to treat it urgently - which theyre unlikely to do.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. No confirmation, simply what I quoted above.
She is being very evasive. Does it sound right?
Originally when I asked for my deposit back she said "I don't remember you paying one, are you sure you did?"
Hence why I assumed it wasn't in a scheme. I am very wary of the situation to be honest.0 -
You were advised what to do in the last thread.
Write.
Then sue.0 -

I know. That is the course of action IF indeed she doesn't comply with what she has now said.
It would be foolish to sue if I am getting it back anyway. Hence my question! If it sounds right then I will have to take what she has said at face value.
If you knowledgable people say it sounds like a line then I will expect the worst.0 -
My deposit was put in a scheme and i received an email with a pass code or something in it.
To be honest if its not in a scheme, shes best just paying you off anyway, the fine for not putting it in one is quite hefty off memory.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. it would be wise for you to follow the advice already given - find out if it is in one of the 3 schemes or not !
if not in a scheme then we "knowledgeable" people havbe absolutely no knowledge about your LL intentions, how can we?If it sounds right then I will have to take what she has said at face value.

If she has the money outside a scheme then the only person driving the timescale is her and she can say what she likes0
