Tesco Mastercard. . . payment changes already made?

in Credit cards
Mrs H and I would love to know if anyone else has received a letter from Tesco Bank advising of new credit card payment details. We received such a letter this morning. It said Tesco Bank's account details are changing to sort code 400250 and account number 31316044. It asked if we could accordingly change the details we use for our monthly bank transfer payments as soon as possible.
The letter looked genuine but we re-checked with the Tesco website and saw confirmation that unless you pay by Direct Debit -- in which case, Tesco will update its account details accordingly without any inconvenience to the payer -- then anyone making a non-scheduled payment from an online bank account must change the payee details as per the terms of the letter.
So we've gone online to our bank account (which isn't with Tesco) from which we make a non-scheduled payment each month but have discovered that the new sort code and the new account number are already there.
We've never changed those details and we've had our Tesco credit card (Mastercard) for many years so we're a bit baffled. It's no big deal but we're just wondering if anyone else has been asked to change their Tesco Bank payee details only to find that somehow, Tesco Bank has already done that??

Well....at least it's done & don't have to worry about it!!0

Depends how it was setup originally. I can choose to "pay bills" from my online bank and select the company and the type of account rather than put in an account number and sort code manually. One assumes that if the account number or sort code then change, the regular payment gets updated automatically.0

Yes, I got one of these letters. I have a direct debit set up for the minimum payment, and then pay the rest of the balance separately.
I tried to pay online but couldn't work out how to change Tesco's details, so rang my bank (First Direct). They were fully aware of the amendment and confirmed they had already changed their systems to use Tesco's new sortcode and account number, so I didn't need to do anything.

Yes, I received one of these letters too. However, when I logged into my bank account to change the details, it had already been done. Perhaps the banks were already aware and made the update at their end.0

Thanks, everyone, for the info. Verry interesting to see that from even this small sample, our experience isn't unique. Seems as if tesco Bank isn't as operationally co-ordinated as it ought to be if it's sending letters out to people whose banks have already received the change in payee details. Thanks again, everyone.

Its just to ensure that customers who pay from say not so savvy Banks and Building societies should make the necessary change.I am Novice wrt Knowledge on UK Banking industry. I post based on my own experiences and knowledge of using credit cards overseas.0

I actually thought they were just ensuring everyone made their payments on time, using the right details. You'd have been pretty cross if Tesco didn't tell you and then when your payment didn't go through, they said it was your bank's fault for not updating their details. You'd have got a £12 charge and a late payment marker on your credit file, plus phone calls to sort it out.0 -

Well I'm no fan of banks, but they can't do right for doing wrong for some. If they didn't write out and someone missed a payment, they'd be on about how they'd lost their promo rate or had a fee applied 'unfairly'.:cool:0 -
I'm glad you started this thread, as I got the letter and instantly thought it could be fraudulent. I've checked on my online bank account and the direct debit has changed but I had to change my faster payments for when I make the extra payments. I've sent 1p to test and mae sure it comes off my tesco credit card before I go making bigger payments.0

I too thought the letter could be fraudulant, so thanks for the opinions. I have just checked my bank details(Barclays) online and mine too has already changed the details to those in the original posting!
Merry Christmas everyone!0
