Then (if you have glass cover on insurance) "break" the windscreen, book for a new one saying it is heated, give windscreen fitter a "drink" and he will probably fit it, job done heated screen!
That is as wrong as suggesting that the OP steals the money to pay for a new improved windscreen.
But I like the idea and may do it myself one day. :whistle:0 -
my point was you can put the card anywhere as long as it is blocking the air flow.
If there is an orifice for hot air to exit then cold air will enter, cold air over aluminium which has very good thermal conductivity and with a large surface aria will cool. not as efficient as a radiator but it works.
a 95 is a long way from a landy for a start a 95 has a little grill compared to the landy
2nd the op wants to get the engine up to temp so he can get the cabin up to temp there is no need for AC here 3rd if the land did have oil coolers and ac I doubt that it would be overheating at high speeds in this cold weather as long as the rad is partially blocked
The Td5 has a cast iron block which has poor thermal transfer properties (one of the reasons why the latest Ford Ecoboost engine doesn't have an alloy one, it retains the heat better).
Current weather isn't really cold at all so if the engine isn't getting up to temperature within a couple of miles then something is wrong, and trying to get around the issue by sticking lumps of Kelloggs finest packaging in the way is really just a bodge.
Being turbocharged there will also be an intercooler up front. A/C (assuming its fitted but we are talking a Disco not Defender) will operate down to 3-5°c depending on system.0 -

I've yet to drive a diesel that gets up to temp in a couple of miles. Mine will blow slightly warmed air after a mile but the gauge has hardly moved after two miles. Even in summer it can be 5 or 6 miles before the gauge reads normal. And there is nothing wrong with it.0 -

OP don't panic, almost certainly, nothing is wrong.
LR have massive cooling system capacity, due to them still being designed to work for a living.
Added to that, a diesel engine driven at light load puts very little heat into the cooling system. this is why so many modern diesel cars have auxiliary heaters fitted as standard.
I've not much experience with td5, but the previous generation Tdi engines (200 and 300) could idle all day long and never get the temperature gauge off the bottom stop. My modified 300tdi starts to show noticeable warmth in about 3 miles, but isn't up to 'normal' for another 5, when the outside temperature is around 5-10C. That's on country lanes, so no high loads.
If in doubt, go to a LR forum (such as LR4x4.com) and ask other owners experiences.0
