E.on and their notice of a 10,000% p.a. price increase. Is this a record?

is this extra £100 down to standing charges that eon will be charging from next year.
Yes unfortunately.
I wouldn't mind paying a few quid to keep the infrastucture in place, but £100 a year is ridiculous.
As I said, nPower would actually pay me for using their electricity.
I've told E.on I'm switching to a new supplier.0 -

Afternoon all.
Just thought I'd pop on and confirm a couple of things following the changes we announced last week.
From 18 January 2013, all our tariffs will have a daily standing charge. This replaces the former two tier (primary/secondary) structure.
Those customers on existing contracted tariffs with a set end date will continue to receive two tier charges throughout the term of the agreement. However, at the end of the contract, there'll be no option with us to continue with two tier charging.
Just a heads up to customers changing supplier because of the price rise. Please let us know you're switching because of the increase.
This will allow us to update your account accordingly and make sure we don't charge the new rates/cancellation fees to customers who notify us within the correct time frame.
For clarity, customers switching because of the increase need to let us know this on or before 18 January 2013.
We've re-introduced daily standing charges as part of our attempt to simplify our tariffs. This means there'll be a fixed amount for the connection plus an amount for energy actually used.
The standing charge covers things like meter reading, maintenance and the cost of keeping properties connected to the networks.
Previously, these costs were covered by the tier 1 (primary) charges.
Regrettably, very low users like Biscuit Tin will see higher charges as a result of the standing charge.
Hope this is of interest. Give me a shout if anyone needs any more info as will be happy to help.

Dear Eon representative
I've just got my letter and it states a daily charge for both gas and elec of 27.395 pence each.
This comes out at exactly £100 pounds a year.
So can you confirm I'll be paying £200 per year on the standing charge for eon energyonline?
As a relatively low user I feel this is quite a lot in comparison to the previous tiered charges.0 -
Hi omikin
The standing charge replaces the old primary (first tier) rates.
At the price quoted, I can confirm the new annual standing charge will be £100 per year for each meter.
How this compares with the old primary charges will depend on the area you're in, annual usage and if the electricity tariff is single rate or Economy 7.
To compare with the old EnergyOnline rates, you'll need to look at the thresholds of 900 kWh for electricity and 2680 kWh for gas. These are the maximum number of kWh charged at the primary rate each year.
If you multiply the number of kWh a year you use by the primary rate up to these thresholds, this will give you the equivalent primary rate figure to compare.
As a low user, you may be consuming less than the above thresholds. In this case, all usage would previously have been charged at the higher primary rates.
If you let me know the area you're in, your annual usage and if the electricity is single rate or Economy 7, I'll be happy to do the maths for you.
I'll only need the first part of your Post Code. Alternatively, drop an email to the address in my Profile and I'll take a look.
