Completion was most likely yesterday (Friday). Now Monday/Tuesday.

Surprised solicitor hadn't checked up previously to make sure all the cleared funds were in place.

Correct. The completion was Friday but due to the CHAPS transfer issue, the Estate Agent cannot release the keys until Monday, which is 3/4 days over the completion date.

I agree that our Solicitor should have checked the monies had cleared before Friday.

NO!? Customer asked their bank to process a CHAPS payment, they failed to deliver that promise and messed up causing unwanted stress.

Who's buying the house? The OP.
Who requested the CHAPS payment? The OP.
So the OP should ensure that the bank carried out that instruction. Considering the important of the transfer, you would have thought they would be checking the status of it daily.

Besides the OP was moving house at the time and more than likely has had quite a lot of other things to organise

Ensuring the money gets to the solicitors is one of the more important points.

No, YOU made the payment, YOU should have made sure it left your bank account. Its the solicitors job to ensure it gets to its final destination. Its YOUR job to ensure it gets to the solicitors.
  • I actually work inside a secure facility of which any external communication (mobiles, Internet, e-mails) are prohibited and restricted. The only time I'm able to check is when I'm at home and as those services are unavailable as I've had to cancel them prior to moving. The banks are also closed when my shift ends.

The situation is sorted, so I'm not bothered.

Thanks to those who offered helpful advice.

So you don't have a mobile phone and don't have a lunch break?

I'm not allowed to do personal stuff during works time, but during 1pm - 2pm I can do what I like, which would include visiting a bank or phoning them to check my balance.

Yes I have a mobile phone and of course I get a lunch break, however, this is provide on-site because of it being a secure facility which means I don't get outside.

I'll agree it can be a pain, but that's why my job role is high-paying.

In these cases Halifax offer poor service. A bank such as Nationwide or First Direct would allow you to leave a secure message whilst you were not at work.

I agree that Halifax should have carried out your instructions, but they didn't. It seems clear that you had no opportunity to chase them, so settled for the next best thing.

So your job role is high-paying because they don't let you go outside ?

Ah well ignore me, all's well that ends well :)

    Congrats on your home.

I think I'd go nuts if i wasn't allowed to go outside. Thankfully, part of my job requires me to go outside. Not so good in this weather, but I still like to get away from my desk now and again.
