Anyone have problems with Allison Dried yeast?

Options
I usually use dove dried yeast but when I needed some the shop only had Allison. I did not think it would make a difference but using the exact same recipe and method my bread is a lot denser and I can still vaguely smell some yeast.

Does anyone have good experiences with Allison yeast?

The only place that seemed to sell Dove was Tesco and they've not had any for ages now so i've been using Allinsons. I can't say i've noticed any difference.

    I prefer Doves too.
It might be just this particular batch but i find with the Allinsons tub yeast it needs longer to rise, and i use a little more. :)

Is that the one in the orange tub? Never got on with that one, we use Hovis sachets, just using the right amount for the bread machine then sealing up the sachet with a bit of sticky tape.

I use the Allinsons in the green tin and I've never had a problem with it. I've heard good things about Doves but I've never seen it in the shops and feel no need to go and seek it out online when the Allinsons seems to do the job fine.
  • Thanks! It is the orange tin. I will try using a bit more and leaving it for a bit longer :)

And then back to doves ( I usually get mine from the local health shop )

The Allinsons Dried Active Yeast in the orange tin is not for use in bread makers. I tried it accidentally and it didn't work

For BMs they have the Easy-Bake version

Mine is the one meant for breadmakers.
I think it is more a case of the Doves yeast being very good rather than anything "wrong" with the Allinsons
The only difference i can find between them is that Allinsons has vitamin c added along with the emulsifier that is in both.

I've been using Allinsons (green tin) and although it was fine in bread recipes, it seems to be no good anymore or not working for the doughnut recipes I've been trying. I only got the yeast a couple of months ago to try my hand at HM bread, had no problem using the amount in each recipe. Now with the doughnuts I've found it leaves them with a bit of a 'tang' and they don't rise half as much as they should. The yeast has been stored in a cool, dry cupboard so don't know why it would have 'gone off'/stopped working but I'm thinking I may have the ditch the lot (only used 1/2 a tub if that). Will see if I can get this Doves stuff locally I think

    Is it worth emailing Allinsons?
