Changing position of computer stn

My computer station/desk is currently by the side of the BT box (even though TT comes through it). When I joined TT, they sent a Speedtouch modem and this has a limited amount of cable. I would like to move the computer from it's current position but the cable is about 4ft too short. I tried attaching a combination of extension cables with no success (connection).
I then thought about splitters. Currently there is one attached to the BT box and the modem cable comes off that. From the female on the modem, I have a double adapter which allows to phones to be connected.
Would it be possible to move the computer with some form of extension cable? and incidently, these splitter things, they are a constant concern too.

How is your computer connected to the Speedtouch modem?
If it is by ethernet you could just buy a longer ethernet cable. Alternatively you could get a wireless router and a wireless adapter for your PC (if it doesn't already have one). It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
It isn't the ethernet, it's the other one (that's how sad I am).
The thing is, this 5yr old machine runs on '98 and tomorrow a neighbour who is an IT consultant, is going to re-install XP on my son's machine, which I wil be having as he's now using his laptop. So I thought it would be an idea to move the comp/stn in readiness. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
If you are using a correctly wired telephone extension cable, it should work.
BT point -- adsl filter -- telephone extension -- telephone lead -- modem -- PC.
if you have just got a longer telephone lead, and are replacing the telephone lead (normally plugged into the modem) with one designed for a phone, then it might not work because the wire is wired differently.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0
