Hi
I received a letter yesterday from my old car insurance company (eCar) demanding £381.50.
I cancelled my policy with them back in September and received a letter on the 10th Sept confirming it. 3 Months later (now) they are demanding money?
The letter states that £75 cancellation fee is included in the sum. Also, in the terms and conditions it does say that any changes to my policy will be charged (however, no specific sum is given) I had changed the policy 3 times (changed between 2 cars, on 3 occasions)
I understand what the money may break down to, but cant see how they can demand it after that period of time...
They have given me a 14 day limit to get the money to them. Im 19 years old, in full time work but cannot afford that sum of money... Even more so with Christmas 2 weeks away!

They have up to 6 years to enforce the debt via the courts and so 3 months is well within the timescales.
If you are challenging the amount then speak to them and ask them to provide a breakdown.
Normally when you phone to cancel they will tell you there and then what the cost of the cancellation is going to be and its collected with the next direct debit (assuming you pay via credit)0 -
They have upto 6 years to demand the money.
If the figure is not in the terms and conditions then you need to ask before making the changes.
Arrange a payment plan with them. If you ignore it then they can pass it onto the debt collectors and increase the charges.
Make a sensible offer and they should be OK. If you offer £5 a month then dont expect then to accept that. £50 a month?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Thanks for your help guys! I have requested a breakdown as mentioned above. I will hang on for that (Assuming I receive an email Monday) and will reply with a payment method. I'd like to think they cant add any kind of interest to monthly payments if that's what i asked for? I may pay it in full anyway just so its not too my name.
Once again, thanks !0
