I agree, its not worth the risk, and to be honest it is fairly easy to set up 2 dds for each account, just takes a bit of work initially.

I have 3 reward accounts and in the end I set up as follows:

reward one has dd from Santander esavings account and union membership
reward two has a dd from post office savings account and phone bill
reward three has a dd from Tesco savings account and from Barclay card (as have a 0% card which pays minimum monthly balance dd, (when this is paid off will transfer the dogs insurance premium to it.

I have done it this way so that 1. If Halifax start looking into multiple account holders in more detail , they can see that not using the same dd's for each and 2. if they decide not to accept dds for savings accounts then will only have 1 dd for each account to swap.

I have the dd's to the savings accounts claiming the £5 rewards so they will be kept separate and as the union, phone bill and minimum payment are fixed (or at least relatively stable amounts) I have set up a standing order from my main account to the reward accounts to cover them.

  • I was just saying that PO will let me set a DD to more then 1 bank account. Is that not the case, I wasnt intending to have two PO on the same account.

Really? I tried that with the TSB offer, and although I could nominate the account to transfer funds to, they would not allow me to setup a DD to the account (even after waiting for a week after setting it up), so I assume only 1 is possible.

    How are you doing that?

I have 2 PO savings accounts, and a total of 6 current accounts ("nominated accounts") registered with the PO. I still can only set up 1 DD to one of the nominated accounts. What am I doing wrong?
  • 3 of them use Tesco and YBS (old Egg savings account), and have done since February. I like to prepare/plan early! The other is my main bills account. This thread is riddled with other options. There's also a thread on the savings board listing providers who can pull money in by DD.

There's also charitable donations, but that's an emotive topic with many (including myself).

EDIT: You're going to have to act quickly, being as the deadline for having the DDs set up is 14th April. What's that?...3 weeks?

That's 'set up' and not actually paid out..isn't it..or is it?

It's "set up" (which I assume to mean showing in your online area), as per the letters they sent (and the first post in this thread).

Mine have been 'paying out' since last month though.
  • Phew that's alright then..my second account DDs are set up but won't be paid out till the 15th april.

    Thanks..

Up to now, I have never received any notification from Halifax about the T&C changes. I have more than one account with them, too.

I have a Halifax credit card which is paid directly from my reward account. Will this count as one of the two direct debits required to meet the new t&c's from 1 May or do they both have to be from third parties?
