Help buying new laptop

Hi guys.
I was wondering if you could possibly help me out.
My old Dell laptop with Vista installed and no webcam is finally on its last legs and i am looking to buy a new one.
I am after a laptop not a netbook as i have a dell one of those already.
As i am pretty unsatisfied with how my laptop worked and how my netbook is the slowest thing know to man, Im after a new laptop and was wondering if you all could make some suggestions.
Here are some of the specifics of what i am after:
- cost: no more than £350
- CD player
- Windows 7 or 8.. maybe pref windows 7.
- Quite big storage space. I tend to need a lot of programmes on it for gadgets (EG ITunes, RIM stuff), and i also would like a space i can store pics as well as dvd rips of mine that i have used to put onto a tablet i own.
- cd burner as i need to burn cds
- multiple usb ports
- pref no bigger than 15" and if light, a bonus but not vital
- Not a samsung (the samsungs i have seen have died sharpish)
- Not a dell as i am done with that brand
- not a acer as i have witnessed an array of problems with them with other users.
- i would quite like it to last for a number of years. As you can see with my ancient OS on my dell, i am not a big fan of having to go through this process every couple of years, nor can i afford it.
I know asking for something with this much for £350 is bit of a stretch but i thought i would try..

There is already an under £350 thread, so I will concentrate my effort on the upgrade of your existing machines.
If the laptop is not physically falling apart, you can probably upgrade it at a low cost. Likewise the Netbook. Service Tags of both machines if you please.0 -
When did Vista become ancient?
Millions of people still happily using Windows XP..............Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endQuidquid Latine dictum sit altum videtur0 -
backup, reinstall windows from factory restore partition usually solves "last legs/slowness" problems in 15 minutes.

get that. It's marked down, ticks most of your boxes above and has a bloody good chip in it for its price, I recommended it for someone else when it was at £350+, very tidy machines.0 -

windows 7 to windows vista is what macdonalds is to burger king except for the marketing budget involved in making over vista so much it was almost unrecognisable but they're basically the same thing
which is a shame because XP was pound per pound a far more efficient system, it could have been developed so much more, it's only been thrown away because microsoft want to push something which in many ways is a step backwards. Vista was not well received, so they waited, they conspired then suddenly windows 7, same UAC, same resource hogging/wastage
the issue with XP was only this -they got it TOO right0 -
If your looking for a giggle (or just a face palm:doh:) this rainy Friday afternoon.........
My Dad, in his seventies, bought his first computer when he retired - Windows ME
Eventually he bought a new computer - with Vista!:wall:
To be fair, he really only uses it for emails, photos, a bit of surfing and occasionally typing a few letters so it hasn't really been too much of an issue, except when he has a problem - and rings me!:silenced:

Why don't you upgrade it for him? Make and model number?0 -
No idea about make and model number (it's at his house)NiftyDigits wrote: »Why don't you upgrade it for him? Make and model number?
He can't work out why no-one else likes/liked ME or Vista (or why I am disparaging about them), it's what he knows now and he's quite happy :wall:Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endQuidquid Latine dictum sit altum videtur0 -
Can someone link me to the under 350 thread please?0
