Oh but I am glad I don't work with you. It is so difficult to have to organise Xmas parties in offices - trying to organise the date, sort out fussy eaters, add service charges onto the cost because if you don't people forget to leave the included service fee at the table and the more conscientious few end up footing that bill

Then to have to deal with people who drop out at the last minute and who start contacting CAB about refunds etc.
If I was the organiser I am very sorry but I would not want to ask you next year...

Thanks for your constructive input, its not difficult at all to organise. The organisation of the event was never in question. Came on here to ask for some advice maybe akin to if I had some shoes that were faulty, nothing more and at risk of feeding trolls I will leave it there.

What PRECISELY did you say to CAB? I suspect it wasn't the full, true story, so their advice may be incorrect.

I explained to situation to them, that I had cancelled before their 48 hour cancellation conditions and that the staff had taken my details and would inform the kitchen to remove me from the list.

Not sure where your suspicions come from can you please expand in case I am missing something?

What EXACTLY did you explain to them? Did you explain that another person was the organiser and made the booking (hence held the "contract" with the venue), but YOU called the venue to cancel for one person (i.e. reduce the party number by one)? Did you make this clear to CAB?

If you did do so then I retract my previous comment and apologise for any offence caused. In such a case I still suspect the CAB's advice is erroneous though.
