Combi Boiler - Heater OK, some taps hot, some taps lukewarm

I was wondering whether somebody could please give me some advise re: my combi boiler

I have a Ariston EuroCombi SX 20 MFFICE and live in a GFF

In Nov 2004 it was unable to produce ANY hotwater, the engineer came round and fitted a new diverter valve - and everything was fine.

In Winter 2005/6, the CH was hot - and water in the kitchen was Hot - shower was OK ish, but the bath was lukewarm. Actually we would have hot water for 1 min then it would go cold. We didn't fix this problem or touch the boiler

Summer 2006 - All of a sudden when the weathere warmed up - we started to get hot water - perfect

Winter 2006/7 - As soon as the cold weather starts, we get the same winter problem. CH OK, Kitchen OK, Shower mmmm, Bath lukewarm-cold. Again, we ride out the winter - no changes.

Spring 2007 - weather warms up but the water isn't hmmmm

If anybody has any advice then please could they pass on their knowledge. I thought it might be the diverter, but surely not so soon after having a new one.

Many Thanks

Graeme

no - but I have thae same problem

a combi boiler and not hot water unless I put the heating on full blast for about 15 - 30 mins before you want a shower and even then its pot luck and the most you get is lukewarm water, but sometimes its freezing.

its not the same kind of boiler as you though but I hope someone can give you ( and me ) advice.
I have had a quote of £2,200 for a new boiler and 7 radiator valves but I can afford it.

You have the symptoms of a sludged up secondary heat exchanger, which confusingly is sludged up on the primary side.

Basically, your system is filthy and needs attention. You also need a new heat exchanger.

Given my knowledge of that boiler, think about getting a new one.
  • Thanks for the tip...

Bearing in mind that I'm selling this house later in the year - whats the short term fix? ;)

    Anyhelp?

The short term fix is to power flush the system and replace the secondary heat exchanger. Neither of these are DIY jobs unfortunately.
