hi
does anyone know how i would go about asking for a dla review, ive kind of put it off but feel that i should do it soon.
i suffer from myochlonic epilepsy and also get grand mal seizures too.
when i was interviewed i was told that i had tonic clonic seizures but the last time i saw the neurologist he told me they had made a mistake and that i had this myochlonic form of epilepsy.
the issue i need to find out before the review is if i have the progressive kind or not which again i havent been told so that is something i will need to follow up before asking for a review ..i personally feel my condition has been getting worse.
i was awarded lower rate care ,no mobility component and atm i am genuinly struggling getting shopping due to my worsening condition where alot of time i have to leave the store with whatever is in my trolly because i come over feeling like im going to loose consciousness ,ive also done a little bit of research on various forums and have seen people with the exact same condition as me and have been awarded middle rate care and mobility ,i understand that everyones case is different but it does seem a bit odd and i really am struggling as i live alone and have absolutely no one to help me.
thanks for reading my book

My understanding of when you can get DLA for epilepsy.
Care needs arising out of fits or altered episodes:
They need to be severe enough to reasonably require someone watching over you. Or for you to be injured by unexpected fits.
If you have warning of attacks, this would not usually be the case, apart from low-rate care.
For mobility - low rate is basically about finding your way around. This would not usually apply.
High rate has several possible avenues, but all fail if you have warning, as I understand it.
Walking would not usually induce your condition to worsen - so nothing there.
If you have warning, then you can safely stop, and sit down, or ...
Finding a forum for those with epilepsy who've applied for DLA may be more useful.0 -
the NSE national epilpepsy society have a great forum and helplines
in general alot of people with epilepsy who have frequent seziures with NO warning get mrc and lrm DLA
mrc due to being needed to be watched over, lrm as they are at risk when away from the home
the key words when making a claim(if you get no warning)is "the risk and the reallity of seizures"

thank you both for the insight.
yeh that's kind of why i believe my condition is worsening as i used to always get a warning but recently ive had multiple seizures without warning ..had three grand mal seizures one after the other in quick succession .also had some weird experiences lately where im in a place i know well then i compleatly loose my bearing /have not a clue where i am ..lasts for about 3-4 mins atm .its pretty scary..ive nearly stepped through plate glass window in a shop due to loosing consciousness to name just one exampleits not good.
