Tesco Bank balance transfer fiasco - Help!

Has this happened to anyone before who can advise? I asked for Tesco to complete a balance transfer approx. 3 weeks ago for just over £2800, to pay off the debt on my Halifax card. Tesco quickly added this amount to my Tesco balance however Halifax received no such payment from them to pay off the balance on their card. I am now paying £2800 on both cards!

Tesco have been contacted several times saying I had.to wait 5 working days and it would be sorted. Today I contacted them for the 4th time and they just don't seem willing to help at all. My final call today, I was informed they have investigated the situation and the money has left them is is not their problem really. Another call to Halifax clarified they had not received anything from Tesco so they doubted there was much they could do.

The correct bank details were supplied to Tesco (this being checked several times).

NO one is willing to help resolve this and I am a further £2800 in debt through no fault of my own, what do I do? Someone please help me! x

  • WRITE a letter of complaint.
  • could the money have been paid to someone elses account at the halifax?you may have given the correct details doesnt mean there is no human error elsewhere
  • Hi,

The stance that the payments team in TB will be taking is that the money has left and is sitting in the Halifax suspense account. It sounds to me like this has not been allocated to your Halifax card by Halifax.

The delay with Tesco is because Halifax won't really speak to them, if the money has been sent, it's Halifax you are best pursuing so they can locate and allocate it.

You'll need to find out the date the payment was sent, from Tesco and the reference.
  • Hi,

I am in exactly the same situation as you. I requested a balance transfer of £2,200 from my Nationwide credit card to my Tesco card on the 27th Nov 2012. The money was transferred straight away and appeared on my tesco balance, however when I checked my Nationwide credit card the balance still showed £2,200.

I telephoned them six days after the 27th Nov 2012 and I was informed that it could take up to 10-14 days for some transfers to go through. I then phoned again on the 17th December as it still appeared on my Nationwide card.

I informed Tesco that I had spoken with Nationwide whom told me they had not received any payment from tesco for the balance. Tesco then told me they would investigate the missing payment and this could take UPTO 6 weeks to complete. I was also issued with a number relating to the missing payment.

It is now the 3rd Jan 2013, £2200 still exists on my Nationwide card and a interest payment of £44.82 is due on the £2,200 and has to be paid by the 28th Jan 2013. So much for the 9 months interest free offered by Tesco!!!

I plan to contact them again next week to see what progress has been made. If I do not get a satisfactory answer then I will write a formal complaint letter.

I would be very interested on hearing what progress you have made.

    Regards
A very annoyed Tesco credit card customer.

    Hi There,

Just wondering have any of you had any success with sorting this. I did a balance transfer of 900 to clear my mbna card and did this through a balance transfer from tesco credit card. The transaction was 12 dec and mbna have still not received payment. I have rang tesco who said that they lodged to correct bank acc and sort code. Very stressed as both sides are not taking responsibility and it looks like i have to pay 900 on both. Have ye had any luck with sorting this and if so how did u go about it?? Help would be greatly appreciated getting more aggitated by the day. Many thanks
  • It,s still ongoing, complain to Tesco about it and they have 8 weeks to sort it out before you go to the F.O.

They should recall the BT from mbna,I used a diff card and diff BT amount (£695) to avoid paying interest on the original card, make sure you pay at least the minimum payment to each card.

At the end of the day its either tesco or mbna,s fault in your case,so the only thing to worry about is making sure they each get paid every month till it,s sorted (with perhaps a goodwill payment ;) )

I doubt it the F.O would ever rule in their favour!
I have a deep burning indifference
