Iv just gave my gas meter reading and been told i owe £90 on top of the £50 a month iv been paying for gas and just got a £60 on top of the £50 a month for that too!
iv never really looked thru other utility companies as the tariffs generally confuse me!
im with SSE on their iplan tarrif? can anyone advise is this normal?

How can we say what is 'normal', without knowing what your actual kWh consumption is, how you heat and hot water your property, or how big the property is? But £50 per month for gas CH and DHW (if that s what you have) would be very low for the average property.
It appears that you have built up debt because you have been paying a inadequate monthly DD amount, and probably because of estimated bills, so what you have now is a catch-up bill following your actual readings, with your DD pushed up to recover the debt. Are you submitting meter readings at least every quarter?
Tariffs need not be complicated, once armed with your annual kWh figures it takes 2 minutes on a comp site to find the cheapest tariff. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Comparison sites are really the only way. You cannot compare by looking at different suppliers tariffs. Perhaps that is what you have been doing.
As macman says though you do need your actual consumption for the past 12 months and then you will get an accurate picture of what is best for you.

What's to be confused about gas & electricity tariffs?
Have a read, and if you are still having issues, post in the thread specified.
