Denon AVR1312 - no output to subwoofer

Don't often use the sub-woofer. Usually just the 5 surround speakers but when I switched it (sub-woofer) on tonight to watch a film I couldn't get any sound from it under normal playback.
I've not changed any settings on the unit (unless I've knocked something by accident). I tried the test tone & all speakers including the sub-woofer are working.
Any suggestions on a likely cause. Still under guarantee so I could take it bake if it's faulty but I'm guessing it's something I've done.

Have you got the crossovers set-up properly?
In my Denon 1612 this is under Menu>System Setup>Speaker Setup> ... various places in here to look ...
Speaker config , Bass Setting and Crossover Freq. all worth checking!
Might be worth checking out Batpig's pages too ... http://batpigworld.com/wp/0 -
I'll have a look this afternoon . Thanks.
Not sure how they could have become 'un-set' though.0 -
I dont think Denon have changed since I switched to Onkyo so look on the front panel when it is on with a source going through it.... on the left hand side should be a diagram showing which channels its is receiving and the right hand side should show the channels its outputting..... is the SW illuminated on the right side?
What output mode do you have it on? DTS Neo? Dolby Digital? Stereo?
Have you re run the setup wizard since unplugging the sub?
How do you "know" its not working? A good sub should integrate seemlessly with the system. A sub that you can clearly hear is a badly set up sub0 -
Also check your speaker settings. Small speakers setting usually means you leaving the low end stuff to the sub and Large means you are mixing the sub with your normal speakers bass.
Also like previous post says check the cross over and the levels. The test tone might be loud but that does not mean your sub channel is turned up to correct level.
other poster is also correct in that if you can clearly tell when the sub is on and when it is not, you have a poorly set up system.
Default out of the box settings mean nothing from my experience. You always need to set up according to your room and other equipment.
a sound pressure meter and a tape measure is the only real way to set up correctly IMO. Auto-calibration modes tend set the rears too hot and the sub to high i find.
check this thread out and don't give up because it goes into the required detail.

Well I'm definitely no sound expert.
One of my reasons for getting the system was to be able to adjust the settings, including being able to turn up the bass occasionally.
Up until recently I found the volume from the sub too loud if turn up more than about 20%.
I've dug out the instruction CD and had a refresh but can't seem to get the settings the way they were.
I've set the SW mode to LFE+main but even setting the Source Level to maximum (+12dB), along with the Subwoofer in the channel level setting, the output from the sub is nowhere near it's previous levels.
I'll have a read of that thread tomorrow & see if it helps at all.0
