Britain's Hidden Housing Crisis

Kevin hit the nail on the head when he said help is available, it's what you choose to do with it. Good luck to him.0

Did the family in the £500k house have two cars?
Couldn't they have sold at least one of the cars to pay the £2,000 mortgage for one more month while trying to find work?
While Kevin looked the most humble, he won't get sympathy from many as he's a former banker and so "deserved it".0 -

They sold one car but the money went on christmas presents.0

They did sell one of their cars, but didn't get much for it.
What I don't understand is why they didn't try to downsize before the eviction.
The family with 6 kids seemed to think that the Council were obliged to rehouse them. Apparently when they ran into arrears, the Council gave them every opportunity to produce documents, show up for meetings etc - and they didn't - finally the Council evicted them as making themselves homeless. Which made me think that they did that on the assumption that they would get a bigger house. Well that backfired.0 -

Says a lot about his missus that she dumped him when his business went belly up. "For richer, for poorer" and all that.0 -

Wisely reinvested then.0 -
I think Kevin will be okay. He's clever enough to pick up work and humble enough not to be fussy about it.0

Looks like he's been through the mill and yet he seems so accepting of it all. I hope he's in a better situation now.

My heart still went out to pretty much all of them as it is a sad & tragic situation to be in , especially the woman who was already struggling with cancer & she needs a secure home for the Grandkids etc @ her age
Kevin , well just BLESS him
Shelter & other charities = YES we need more charities to help people & I trust them WAY more than the banks etc , coming to see Kevin @ 6am in a park , well done them for sure! x
Whatever people want to say about the large family those kids were DISTRESSED & I HATE seeing kids in distress , they don't deserve that life!!!
We all have struggles from time to time , unexpected things happen & my compassion does kick in , especially when unexpected things happen & its SCARY the thought of losing your home & the banks don't give a flying **** of course!
I have had some unexpected problems in my life but thankfully nothing as bad as this and it makes me feel SO FORTUNATE , so thank goodness there are charities which help although staying in a drug den 'shelter' isn't the most appealing prospect for many & staying with friends & family is only a temporary solution! xx0
