Bank of Scotland Risk Bands and CPD ?.

I opened a Bank of Scotland classic account online a few days ago, and this has now appeared on my Halifax online banking along with my Halifax reward account.

I was in a Bank of Scotland branch today as I wanted to open another 2 classic vantage accounts, the advisor registered me for online banking and added vantage to my account, but told me to open the other accounts online as it is easier than doing it in the branch.

She showed me a screen called 'Insight' and it had Risk band 11, Approved Overdraft Limit £1000, credit card £4750, and debit card Platinum, she said it was unusual to have all this so soon after opening the account and must be to do with how I have run my Halifax and Lloyds accounts.

I thought risk band 11 would be bad ?, anyway I came home and tried to open a 2nd Classic account online and get the message "We cant offer you a 2nd current account', when I try to upgrade (Not that I really want to) I get told I hold the highest Added Value Account, which is not true as Classic is not the highest !.

Anyway went down to the branch they said there were no blocks, markers or indicators on the account and they think that it is because I added vantage today and no other changes are permitted for 24 hours, she also ordered me a cheque book.

Not sure if their story is true, reading the other threads I am convinced I have CPD on the account, although she did go away and check and came back and said there was no markers on it.

Could it be that it is still new and they want to see how it is run ?, that said my Halifax account lets me upgrade and open additional ones so I am confused.

Wouldn't worry, it seems true you can only open one every 24 hours. You can do it on the phone, too. I opened my first one online. When I tried the second, it said there was "a technical error" but they opened it fine for me on the phone. Have yet to try my 3rd one, planning to do that one on the phone again.
  • Same has happened to me, tried to open a second Lloyds TSB account online, about a month after opening first and same message came up, I'm assuming they probably want to see how you run the first one maybe?

I think it's just a system quirk of sorts. I could open 2 Lloyds accounts online but had to go into Branch for the third.

Are you sure it was "11" and not "1L" ?

I got that. No idea why. I opened the 2nd account by phone, and then it let me open the 3rd account online.

It looked like 11, is there an 11 ?. The screen was at an angle so it could have been 1L, 11 does seem bad !. But it did say Debit card available Platinum, but on online banking it says I cannot upgrade to even Silver, so don't know if their branch system is different.

The scores don't go up to 11 as far as I am aware and they do use the letter "L" after the number - eg 1L
