  • my 5 year old son thinks its great, he heard willy moon on the radio the other day and said to my partner, dad i dare you to shout willy moon out of the window, haha he's a crazy kid, only turned 5 monday to. Think people just think its funny but obviously some people don't find it funny.
  • I'm a bit deaf so can never usually hear whether they're shouting a compliment or a criticism :D
In my area it's always young lads who sound a bit high on waccy baccy.

It's amazing how many idiotic car drivers seem to think that a pedestrian or cyclist will be able to hear what they are ranting about when they go past at 30 mph causing their words to become unintelligible because of Doppler shift rapidly changing volume.

Doppler shift changes the frequency of the sound, not the volume. :)

Is it bad that I want to shout 'bus w*nkers' out of the car window when I pass the bus stop - especially when my son's standing there. :o

  • It's in the rules that we need proof of this bum being good enough to shout at :p

(Or those ruddy idiotic lights that just blink all the time, like they're sending you morse code of "watch out, muppet about") and expect you not to run them over.

Flashing lights are permitted for cyclists at night (although some cyclists use flashing lights that are too bright and can dazzle drivers). For conspicuity, flashing lights do have some advantages, as they have a tendency to draw the eye, and as no other vehicle uses flashing head and tail lights they do highlight the presence of a bicycle.

There should have been an 'and' between 'doppler shift' and 'rapidly changing volume'. (Must proof read before posting. :rotfl:)

It's the combined effect of the very rapidly changing frequency and amplitude of the sound that make it virtually impossible to hear what someone shouting out of a window is saying if they pass close and are going at any speed.
There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.

Is their really any need for it, why do people do it? It's embarrising!!

I suspect that people shout things out of car windows for much the same reasons as other people post threads on certain internet forums.
