I'm a bit deaf so can never usually hear whether they're shouting a compliment or a criticism

In my area it's always young lads who sound a bit high on waccy baccy.#TeamCarter

It's amazing how many idiotic car drivers seem to think that a pedestrian or cyclist will be able to hear what they are ranting about when they go past at 30 mph causing their words to become unintelligible because of Doppler shift rapidly changing volume.
Doppler shift changes the frequency of the sound, not the volume.
Dave, being pedantic0 -
Is it bad that I want to shout 'bus w*nkers' out of the car window when I pass the bus stop - especially when my son's standing there.

The one that has me in fits every time,
"Oi! Ginger!"
Cracks me up.
*Sarcasm mode off* Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0 -
It's in the rules that we need proof of this bum being good enough to shout at

(Or those ruddy idiotic lights that just blink all the time, like they're sending you morse code of "watch out, muppet about") and expect you not to run them over.
Flashing lights are permitted for cyclists at night (although some cyclists use flashing lights that are too bright and can dazzle drivers). For conspicuity, flashing lights do have some advantages, as they have a tendency to draw the eye, and as no other vehicle uses flashing head and tail lights they do highlight the presence of a bicycle.0 -
There should have been an 'and' between 'doppler shift' and 'rapidly changing volume'. (Must proof read before posting. :rotfl:)
It's the combined effect of the very rapidly changing frequency and amplitude of the sound that make it virtually impossible to hear what someone shouting out of a window is saying if they pass close and are going at any speed. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0
