Crazy wine glass idea... boxes needed

My friend has spent the last year sourcing port glasses from charity shops for the sit-down meal so that everyone can toast the bride and groom andthen keep the glass they use as a memento. I made a small square "gift bag" for each one (using a range of similar but different card and ribbon chosen by the bride), and I used a range of charms from e-bay (one on each, chosen by me).

Anyone with half a crafting mind will be able to come up woth something for you :) They may have lost the will to live by the time they finish making them all, (from personal experience!!) so a nice pressie might be in order!

Your idea will work, and it will be fab :D

Bear in mind that the venue may well want to put all the glasses through their potwash beforehand as they will be serving drinks in them and need to ensure that their backs are covered in terms of health andsafety issues.

Aw thanks Pixie Dust, are they taking them home dirty? I was thinking that people arn't going to want to take the wine glass home but will hopefully combine the name tags in to some favour for them to take.

Try a Wanted ad on Freecycle/Freegle and Gumtree.

Let the Charity Shops in your area know what you are looking for & give them your number, hopefully if any come in, they'll keep them for you.

    Yes great idea thank you

  • Yes, I think so...they will only be using them for one drink (the toast) and can wipe them out if necessary with a napkin/paper towel. :)

For storing them, cardboard boxes with each glass wrapped in bubble wrap will be sufficient. Lie the glasses on their side rather than stand up and it'll be safer :)

They usually ring you as soon as the stuff comes in, so expect you to collect it quickly. Or, one I know, has an arrangement with a customer - he comes once a month & collects anything they have kept for him.
  • Seek out your local auction house, you will pick up lots of glasses there, and do a tour of your local house clearance shops, let the boss know what you are after as they will often put them in auction to get shot of them, here in london you could get a job lot of glasses for about £10-£15, there will be some that you wont be able to use, but pass them on to the charity shop that helps you the most!!
