Hmmm, someone at MSE decided to quietly remove my previous post. So here it is again, slightly edited to appease the censor:

Santander makes a very small error, identifies the error, informs customer of the error, apologises and explains what they intend to do rectify it.

    Foolish customer throws a wobbly.

Yes, it's time for you to move on.

The annual summary statement from Santander has turned up.

Guess what, it shows a DEFAULT FEE of £12 alleged to be for MISSED PAYMENTS. :rotfl:

This was when Santander failed to collect a direct payment on time. :(

At least it doesn't seem to have been reported as such to credit reference agencies.

9 months ago you created this thread!

Did you come to any agreed resolution with the bank of the charge(s)?

As for the annual summary statement, it needs to accurately reflect the transactions on the account over the period. If it didn't then you really would have cause for complaint. ;)

So what the problem then? You're one of them aren't you... One of those who find something to complain about when there is nothing, and make everyone elses life hell because of it.

I presume, Santander did refund the default fee a month later. Curiously you failed to make a posting about that fact. Obviously "sharpy" is right:

    It isn't.

Aren't you aware that acting like you do make other people miserable though?

Gosh, there are some unfriendly people around here. :(

This message is for neutral readers. If you have already posted abuse or drivel or feel like doing so, it's not for you. ;)

MSE is a great resource for providing and exchanging information on products and services. I am happy to have been a member of the MSE community for some years and have benefited from the advice of Martin and other MSEers.

Santander are well-known for poor customer service, as evidenced by regular mentions in weekend newspaper advice columns where readers look for help with their Santander problems.

MSE posters contribute to the knowledge base. In my case, 2 Santander credit cards out of 2 incorrectly charged default fees, in one case wrongly charging interest, are two too many. It took time and effort to stop that. In addition, our ex-Abbey mortgage became contaminated when taken over by Santander.

Some others clearly disagree, but I think it's important to exchange information about potential problems.

We have a Zero CC account for which a correctly set up, acknowledged and previously working fine Direct Debit had been set up to pay off the balance in full. The DD was still in place in May when I last checked with my bank. This month we discovered no DD had been taken and were rapidly hit with default and interest charges. Furthermore trying to pay by debit card through the internet site was rejected and the site refuses to allow a new DD to be established even though the facility exists (telling me the details of the account to be debited are wrong, when they're coorect). Initial complaint just produced a message confirming there was no DD in place and to ring an 0845 to set one up, with no attempt to address the question of what had gone wrong and remove charges. Further complaints have secured nothing more than an acknowledgement well over a week on. Shame they don't sort out problems as quickly as they whack on the charges. HSBC confirm the DD was cancelled by Santander in June - but we were never told. We were going to try one of these 123 accounts, but not now, and indeed we've withdrawn all our savings from Santander - I need to be able to trust a bank. For all those expressing surprise at them faring badly in the ranking - have a look at the financial problem pages in newspapers and see how often this lot occur.
