Decent Quickbooks Accountant ...

As a small business we have put a lot of time and energy into quickbooks, and made a bit of a hash of it

When hunting around for a accountant calling themselves "quickbooks aware" or quickbooks certified, were surprised to find that every single one had less knowledge then ourselves on use of quickbooks, and our knowledge is sadly limited. Do intuit allow ANY accountant to register themselves as Quickbooks Certified !!

Can anyone direct us to a decent quickbooks accountant who actually knows how to use quickbooks properly (preferably with good knowledge of integrating quickbooks with office applications etc) ?

Thanks

Pauli

Are you looking for the right type of firm? What is it that you want from them? What is it that you want your accountant to do for you appertaining to Quickbooks?

An accountant is mostly interested in extracting the necessary figures from your system to prepare your accounts and tax returns. A typical accountant will limit their involvement to how and where the transactions are recorded (i.e. which ledgers, which analysis codes, VAT coding, etc) and probably train you in the basics of the accounting entries.

If you are wanting help with integration with other packages, either data import from elsewhere into Quickbooks or data export from QB to other packages, then you're looking in the wrong place - these are not directly accounting related issues, they are really IT issues and you would need an IT consultancy-type firm.

Speaking as an accountant myself, I regard myself as having a very good working knowledge of QB and do a lot of training of clients/staff, so I know the ledgers, accounts reporting, time recording, costing, stock control, etc inside out, but if you asked me how to import data from another package, or how to export data into some other package, then I wouldn't really be able to help as that needs a basic knowledge of computer coding, even for csv transfers, that is best left to experts in their field.

By the way I don't think the term "quickbooks certified" actually exists. QB have a professional advisers programme, which accountants, book-keepers and IT firms can join, but there is no vetting and I don't think QB ever suggest that they have vetted or monitor those firms.

Being nosy, did you have any training or go on a course before starting to use Quickbooks or did you just bash on ?

what we found is that their is so many ways of doing the same thing in quickbooks, we just went into it at different times with different "methods"

In the end, we ended up with a "spagehtti junction" of procedures most of which clashed with each other!!

We've just started using QuickBooks too, have got someone coming in and helping us set it up, but we really need someone to come in on a weekly basis to do it / teach us how to do it! The person who's helped with setup says that as it's relatively new, it can still be quite hard to find people who are skilled in using it.

Astonished to find there are lots of different ways of doing things - I'm struggling to do some things in any way at all!

WHA, I am an IT Consultant and have recently set up my own limited company would you be able to point me in the direction of a professional accountant to prepare my accounts and tax returns or guide me in the correct direction? Any advice on Professional Indemnity insurance would help as well please

    Many thanks in advance.

Quickbooks has been around for several years now, at least five that I know of. When I had a play around with it then I didn't like it much, much prefer Sage. There a few ways of doing the same thing in Sage too though.
