Any idea what is wrong with my laptop?

My laptop seems to be on the verge of death (again!). Its a dell inspiron 5160. I recently (about 4 months ago) replaced the motherboard. Since then its been working fine until early last week.
The problem is that it only charges at certain times. Sometimes when I turn the machine the message that the computer "does not recognise the power source comes up". It does not work with the battery out. Jiggling the power supply about to find out if its a loose connection does not seem to help - any ideas anyone? I'm actually managing to get it charged once in a while and I'm writing this on it at the mo!

I get similar problem with my Toshiba laptop, it doesn't always detect the charger... sometimes the charging light is on, but the software doesnt detect it is being charged. restarting the laptop usually does the job for me.0
