Working Tax Credits & NHS charges

Hi all,

I've got a newly single friend, she is now claiming WTC and CTC but is wondering why she doesn't have an NHS Exemption Card.

So thought I'd come and ask here if they still send them out or is there some other thing in place now to prove low income or does she have to apply via the Low Imcome Scheme HC1 form?

Thanks for any advice.

IIRC, they take a (long) while to come through. However, she can tick the box anyway, and her entitlement will be checked elsewhere.

She could do that but that would be a dumb thing to do unless she knows she is entitled to the NHS card. Does she qualify for it? Get her to call TCO to check before she ticks any boxes. It takes up to 8 weeks to arrive from when the award is issued.

What your mate needs to do is get a receipt for any medicines from the pharmacy concerned at same time as she pays. that is if she needs any. Then when the card comes through you go back to same pharmacy and they will refund the charges to her at that point. That is assuming she qualifies for one. Childrens med's are free anyway. Hope that helps.

I waited ages and mine did not arrive. I am on WTC and CTC and my partner is on income based JSA (Zero rated as they say my TC are enough. No money just NI stamp. I earn less than £13k Pa). We contacted HMR and they said that I should get free NHS treatment because partner is on IB JSA. We are not married so just wondering how i prove to eg the dentist i am eligble? All we have is a letter addressed to my partner saying he can have JSA. I work 29 hours and have to support myself, partner and 2 children. HMR then said as we are getting the higher rate of WTC & CTC may have to pay some back!! I fill in all my forms accurately so how can that be the case??!!?? Anyone else had the same??

i thought you only have to repay tax credits over paid if your income varies by more then 10k to the estimate you gave them/the previous tax year?
