Is it better to buy adhesive and grout as two separate items, or a combined product.

Also, which adhesive is the best ?

It is for wall tiles in a bathroom, including the shower area. 250 x 200mm ceramic tiles.

Are the own brands any good, from the well known DIY shops, or better to stick with a 'proper brand'

thank you !

no don't buy combined adh & grout it's crap, get bagged adhesive (not from the sheds) not tubbed, i personally don't like bal, i've just done a bathroom & cloaks (big natural stone tiles 600x300x10) with topps tiles own fexi adhesive & it was fine, i use N&C (nicobond) grout, but i'm sure others will have their favs

The term 'best' is imposible to substantiate. How do you define 'best'? It all comes down to personal preference.

It's almost I possible to answer your question as it depends on too many variables. Do you want anti slip? Does intended to be self priming? What's is you substrata? What weight are the tiles? We always use Topps Tiles green star for bathroom and kitchen walls as well as their own brand flexi adhesives, but use Bal grouts. Others use other products.

Just to confirm that there is no single answer to this. If I use tubbed addy for ceramic tiles bathroom walls then my preference is BAL Whitestar which is self-priming but I always stick a coat of acrylic (never ever ever PVA just in case some lunatic suggests it later in the thread) primer (BAL APD or Mapei Primer G) on first. If its in a shower area then obviously tank first.

Always use bagged for big ceramics or natural stone on walls and always bagged for floors. Again its down to preference and I like Mapei gear for this but not the Mapei that B&Q sell - it ain't the same stuff.

For coloured grout to match the tiles again I go for Mapei and same same for coloured silicone sealant. White grout almost inevitably I'll use BAL Microflex. Always use bagged grout not premixed.

The one thing we will all agree on is that combined adhesive and grout is rubbish.

    Cheers

+1 Mapei (and yeah, not the B&Poo variety)

BAL, Mapei, Ardex probably the best of the bunch. Personally generally prefer Mapei, but you cant go wrong with any of the above.

Weber normally a bit cheaper and still decent (Wickes own, is rebadged Weber by the way).
