British Gas - Sorry to see you go

British Gas just sent me a letter telling me they are sorry to see me go.... and an attached cheque for 36p.

Can't decide if it's just plain funny....
When I left the last house they wanted us to move the new house to British Gas ....
I asked them for a list of every tariff and full conditions on paper.
They asked me the address, I refused and told them the postcode.

They asked me how many rooms, I told them non of their business.

They said they needed this to work out which tariff I should be on...

I re-explained I wanted a list of ALL available tariffs and had no interest in their opinion of which tariff....

They said they couldn't do that.....

I explained I have no intention of going with them if they can't supply me their tariffs
I hung up....
As it happens the new house was on British Gas....

Different customer number and ONLY my name not mine and partners names..... as I wanted to completely sever the old one.

How did they get my address?
This must have taken some work to return the 36p I deliberately overpaid? How can they even be certain its the same person?

I really don't remember ever giving them the new address as a matter of principal (I got tired of marketing literature and once made the mistake of them getting my email address and being spammed.. to the point I launched a formal complaint and demand they remove me from any and all records and sent a letter (old address) to confirm they had done this and confirm where they got my email in the 1st place.

Very likely they got your new address as it will be associated with your old one on your credit history.
