18 year old girl wants dental loan. Could I get it?

Both my daughters needed braces when they were young. Oldest was adamant she wasn't having them and youngest had them on for three months before ripping them out.
Both had to pay privately when they were older to have braces (and they really did need them). They went to a well known orthodontist who took £500 as a deposit and then arranged a payment plan over a year. No interest was added as far as I know.
My eldest daughter was offered the plan but several years later when her sister went it wasn't advertised as the practice said there hadn't been much interest but they were quite happy to do a plan for her when she asked.
My eldest daugher has a good credit history, the youngest not so good but she was accepted.
It might be worth having a chat with your orthodontist.0 -
I can understand your feelings about your teeth, but this is a lot of debt to saddle yourself with at 18. You say that your mum has credit problems, well talk to her about that, how does that debt feel? If you were my granddaughter, I would advise you to check out other dental practices, or speak to yours about LOW COST finance, payment plans, perhaps setting up a Direct debit through your bank.
I certainly would not tell you to get pregnant to achieve better teeth, but I know from my own 16 year old g-d what it is like to have some part of you that you want desperately to change. Whether it is for social reasons (IE boyfriend possibilities) or being able to present what you think of as a better appearance at work/in interviews, does not matter. You may not believe this, but your personality and the way you talk to others, is much more important than you think.
What you do now, will have repercussions for your life later. Being financially independent and free from debt, will give you more options later.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

Just to clarify the above comment, silver fillings are not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women
"The British Dental Health Foundation supports the view of the UK Department of Health that it is sensible to minimise health interventions during pregnancy. For this reason and because mercury can be passed through the placenta and breast milk, it is prudent to avoid placing or removing amalgam fillings during this period."I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -

Anyone who knows me will agree that I have a very good sense of humour, thank you. There was nothing whatsoever humourous in the origin comment by Wutang, in my mind.
I also couldn't run for a bus before I took up running at the age of 31. I am in my mid-60s now but still run regularly. I would like to think that I will do 2 or 3 more marathons but injuries keep getting in the way of my ambitions, these days.0 -

Oh well I suppose humour's a personal thing.
Good luck with doing however many more marathons you do, and in any case you've done flipping well with what you've already done.0 -
Hello! I am currently undergoing the Clearstep braces which have cost me a total of £3,500.
My dentist has been great and each time I see him I pay an amount to him, he doesnt set an amount, I totally decide what I pay and when, as long as all of it is paid by the end of my treatment. I have 8 months to go and I owe £950. I am in a position to pay it off now, but im not going to pay for the full balance when I havent seen the results yet, if you get me?
Go for an initial consultation as a private dentist and see what they can do for you. My guessing is that they will let you enter into a similar payment arrangement.
I havent been charged any interest by the way, I just pay a total of £3,500 by the time my treatment is finished.0 -
I think the OP has done a runner.
Or maybe she has gone to a backstreet dentist and got it done for £50 and is now in so much pain she cant type0 -

can we be clear I was not advising her to get pregnant! I had my own issues that needed braces- they were done when I was pregnant and until my child was 1 free of charge. My own dentist advised having them done then as it would be free!
I was giving practical advice! I woud have loved to have had mine done at 18 but I couldn't afford it (wasn't possible when younger). Infact I was 30 when I had braces fitted and it was just after my 1st child was born.June challenge £100 a day £3161.63 plus £350 vouchers plus £108.37 food/shopping saving

I had to pay just under £4000 for my braces (wired ones but with white brackets), however the dentist offered payments over 18 months. If you need top and bottom could you get them done separately to spread the cost?
I needed braces because my wisdom teeth came through sideways causing my front four teeth top an bottom to become very loose and be at 45 degrees! Worse thing was I had had 3 years of various braces as a teenager for overbite and crooked teeth which had been all fixed on the NHS, they just failed to consider what would happen when my wisdom teeth arrived! I ended up having an operation to remove them as after they tried to come through they then went the otherway causing very bad ear ache!Save £3,000 in 2013 challenge: £100/£3000 :j0
