Some banks give rail cards as incentives to sign up for their student account. Other than that- I'm afraid you cant really get them for free, they'll cost you £20.0

Natwest offer you one for free when you open the student account. In my opinion of all the banks I use Natwest are the best so far.0

Is this offer still open? Couldnt find anything on it on their website.
You might have to wait a while for the good offers to kick in ... I opened my student account early and never got any of the offers and freebies
Seems like some places don't start doing them until the summer. 0 -
don't be so bloody tight - they cost £20, you'll save that in one (semi) long journey.0

HAHA Well free is better then paying. The thing is i dont really use trains. I only use them like twice a year max. Im catching a train from london to preston though and if its cheaper the get the rail card then ill get it0

Just pay £20! You will be suprised at how often you will use the train, and also because of the money off you might even use it more often. Stop being a scrounger and pay for it like the rest of us do!!!!!!!0

i dont mind paying but honestly i dont use the train i have been at uni now for 3 years and used it like once. ill get one becasue it will probably still be cheaper
thanks for the help0 -
According to Martin, Nat West gives cards to 1st years who open a new account. Not sre how they check that you are a first year - could be worth a look:

Mind you it's a family rail card, not a student rail card
Thanks to all who post constructively.
Have an A1 day!0
