Did you ever apply for them?

The way I read the previous successful claim was that they got it wrong. eg they applied for it were told they got £50 instead of say £150. They would then have all the proof they needed to get it backdated.

You need proof. You need your application and their award letter (or ask them for it).

I really hope you get it, be a nice bonus for being a working mum, but don't set your heart on it.

If you can't prove you made a claim, its looking slim.

on the better off calculation that is correct, i should of received £50.73 off my weekly rent and £12.31 off my weekly c.tax so works out i would of got £252.16 a month help :( xx

because at times i fell behind with the payments as it has been difficult paying full rent and council tax, therefor i had to set up repayment direct debits and also they had to know my financial side and ingoings and outgoings, how many hours i worked etc for them to come up with repayments amounts for me to pay them back. Also getting my jobs through jobcentre all my details etc go on file.

Just because they hold details for you puts no onus on them to advise that you may be able to clam council tax / housing benefit.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.

The woman in jobcentre seems sure i will get backdating? or is she just misleading me?

She may be inexperienced or disbelieving some rules can be really restrictive.

If she feels you have been misinformed, or let down - as opposed to having been hard done by, if you see what I mean - is she able to point to some time in the past where someone official failed in some way and, thus, write a supporting statement for you to use?

Possibly someone did what she just did with you, but didn't see it through...maybe didn't issue the letters?

okay now im having to share a bit more about my life, about how it all started, sorry.
i had to go onto income support as my partner, kids dad had moved out, i was only on this till my youngest was a certain age to be accepted into the local nursery, through this time when i received income support i did get automatic housing benefit and c.tax that got done when i claimed for income support. (now i only knew i would get this because i got told) Then when my child went to nursery and with a job that i found through the jobcentre, everyone above was obviously notified of the job i obtained and therefore they stopped my housing benefit and c.tax benefit because of this new job, and i thought thats what happened when you start work, i did not know you can claim that while working, hence why i have been paying full rent and council tax for so long. if i knew i would of started a dispute with them so i could of received it. i genuinely thought benefits like that were for non working people.
I am at jobcentre tomorrow to get them to pull all my info from back then and find out why it stopped as it shouldnt of

i hope this makes sense for you xx

I was actually on income support before i obtained the first job, and i was receiving housing benefit and c.tax benefit and through getting a 16 hour job, somewhere along they way i never got this continued? i should of mentioned this before but didnt want to dig to far into my life. xx

i do feel at some point someone along the way has failed me, i have been nothing but honest to all through this and i would like to know why i was failed by whoever it was?

excuse me for what i am going to say, but there is a lot of junkies in the town where i stay and drug addicts etc, they can seem to get everything going for them, and i would like to know that when i needed help and i was new to all this benefit stuff and i didnt know the ins and outs to claiming benefits, but what i can say is this. When i went on income support i did get help with what i was due, now because i didnt want to be on this and got another job, why was i not helped or informedm. why did my benefits stop? it seems a bit backwards to me and i am not going to lie i do feel heartbroken at this xx

i will just have to keep waiting to hear their response i just needed some views of others and advice as i am feeling alone and that everyone i have been speaking to is not very helpful or talkative for that matter
