Find parts for TC taps

We had our bathroom refitted four years ago and the bath hot tap started dripping really badly; the plumber we called in (from a local firm with a good reputation) dismantled it, cleaned it up and applied some Vaseline and it has stopped.

However, he warned us that it would almost certainly need replacing within six months. He could try to source a replacement cartridge but we might be better off doing it ourselves off the internet (though he said he probably shouldn't be telling me that ;) )

TC Bathrooms went into administration a few months ago and I'm guessing somebody bought up their stock, but my searches for spares have not found an answer. My wife and I would be very grateful for any help offered.

Adding a photo might help identify the taps

Turn the water to the tap off at the isolating valves TC fitted. Remove the offending cartridge. Take said cartridge down to your local plumbers merchant who will be able to identify the exact type for replacement or a form, fit and function alternative. Take new cart home, fit, open water supply and test. Relax with a cuppa. Don't even think of going anywhere near the sheds with it.

A useful exercise for a couple of hours on Saturday morning without doing your head in on internet searching.

    Cheers

BTW - what I've suggested is exactly what your plumber would do

  • Thanks for the responses.

Keystone... I'm guessing "the sheds" are internet warehouses...
My friendly plumber more or less said the same as you - he *could* source it but recommended I do the leg work (makes sense, since I'm retired and have the time and not so much money!) and said actual replacement was a simple DIY job. Sort of advice that makes you feel they're a firm you'll be able to trust when you really DO need a professional. And his repair has given us some breathing space.

Muckybutt: the tap is a TC "Serie 9" bath shower/mixer (quarter-turn levers) - can't post photo (AFAIK), but here's one I found on line:

No the likes of B&Q etc etc. Big DIY sheds full of all sorts of stuff you really don't need. Stay off the internet - you can't do what I suggest (which is what he would do) on the internet.

Good so its a job you could do today or tomorrow then rather than waiting until Saturday. Thats if you want to of course.

So you do know what it is then. In that case bypass the above and ring the company in the link and order your spare cartridge(s). Simples.

    Cheers

  • Thanks - and thanks for your patience :)

Lack of confidence stopped me trying initially - not mine, but my wife's lack of confidence that I wouldn't screw it up and flood the place :D

Wimp! :D Are you a man or a mouse? As long as you've isolated the supplies before removing the cartridge(s) then you'll be nice a dry. Just one word of warning though if it's a mixer tap a bathroom mixer mixes hot and cold in the body of the tap unlike a kitchen mixer which does it at the end of the spout. Better to isolate both before working on one or there is a distinct possibility she could be proven right. :D

  • Wimp? Maybe... Wise? Possibly ;)

Long-term trouble prevention. Pay a plumber, at least this time, and avoid getting "And there was the time...." for the rest of my life!

So eek, eek. Where's the cheese? :rotfl:

    Thanks again
