Calm down.... £220 is somewhat over the OP's budget.
Do you imagine that you were the first on this forum to suggest that Zoostorm machine? :money:0 -
NO just this thread. So the poster asks for advice on spending £130 with intention to buy a again in 6 months time. I thought why not save yourself from wasting £130 on someone cast off for the sake of a few quid more they could have themself a good machine brand-new with warranty. Thought this was a money saving FORUM the fact I do not waste money on someone else's old tat. Thanks for the welcome. Personally I thought it was good sound advice. Best calm down... Is looking for something with a dual core CPU and a 128mb video card for no more than £130 completely unreasonable? I don't really mind what OS it has as long as it has one.
Any help/opinions are appreciated, thanks.
What failed on the DELL? You didn't update your earlier thread.0 -
It will still have a lot of ommph. At my old work, I managed to blag myself a double processor, dual core, Xeon machine with hyper threading (much like these ones). The machine was 5 years old, but it still ripped the pants off any of the quad-core non-xeon machines we were getting in new. 8 threads of xeon goodness!NiftyDigits wrote: »A lot of sales blurb, but what is the reality? XEON may sound impressive, but the CPU is from eight years ago. Expect a CPU Benchmark of an ATOM processor of today.0 -

Five years old is not eight years old. It won't have that much 'ommph'. Newer Xeon CPUs are a lot better.
64-bit Intel® Xeon® Processor 3.40 GHz, 1M Cache, 800 MHz FSB CPU Benchmark 537
Not sure as to why it has such a low rating, but there it is.0 -

must admit I found those benchmark scores rather low, considering my Sempron comes in below, but my T2250 Core Duo comes in at 800-ish !!! I wonder what in the pc was limiting the possible scores in those tests, as they are based on real machines out there in the wild...........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

It's a processor from 2004.0 -
I am using a Dell Optiplex 755 - they can be had very cheaply on ebay and at computer fairs, but processors and memory can vary and the default hard disk is 80 GB.0
