Advise regarding bank charges

Hi Guys need sme advise about bank charges that a family member has been incurring.
A family member who is not good with figures to say the least has been paying alot of bank charges.
Said member holds a basic bank account with no overdraft facility.
Her average money going into the said account is £130 per month but she has been spending more
Although there has been no overdraft in place have been allowing the purchases through what they call personal reserve limit.
For this privelege they have been charging £22 every 5 days that the balance remains below zero - therfore monthly charges have been between £22-£88 per month and i suspect this has been happening more than 6 months (have to check statements)
Family member never asked for this personal reserve facility and like i said doesnt quite grasp what overdraft is.
Personally i find the charges extortiante considering what goes into the account every month.
Question is do we have any grounds to challenge these charges and perhaps get a refund considering the fact that if the personal reserve was not provided we would of not incurred these charges.
Thanks for your help

There are no grounds. You are reliant on the banks goodwill.
Are the transactions being made via a guaranteed payment method (like a debit card)? A bank cannot refuse to pay guaranteed payments.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Would the effort not be better spent on helping the family member to budget better and only spend what they have available?I am an IFA.
