What would you Old Stylers do with my draughty door??

Like it says in the header, my front door is really draughty (just down one side, the key side.)
I can't hang a curtain over it (I've tried!) as the hallway is literally the width of the door with no space to pull the curtain back when you want to get out of the door. It's only as deep as it is wide with the stairs straight ahead, a wall to the left (as you go in) and a door to the right. I tried attaching a rail above but the bulk of the curtain gets 'squeezed' when you open the door which pulls on the rail and eventually pulls it out of the wall.
I can't use the stick-on foam-type draught excluder as the door already sticks in places (while still managing to be draughty!) I have in my head a memory of a draught excluder that was like the brushes you sometimes get in letterboxes but I haven't seen any for years and that would be perfect as it would move with the door but can any of you lovely resourceful types think of how I could make something that would do the trick without me having to spend a lot of money, please?

Not very secure for a "front door"0

If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0

How about attaching a wide and fairly stiff piece of ribbon all around the edge of the door on the inside covering the gap between the door and the frame?
It wouldn't affect the opening of the door in any way.
You could attach it with double sided tape.0 -
Have a look at dormer rods or portiere rods. Not used them myself, but I think the rods swivel on their one-sided fixing and should open as the door opens, with the curtain spread along the pole, so bulk of a closed curtain would be spread out against the wall rather than bunched up by door hinges. Does that make sense.
Heavy curtains might strain the fixing on cheaper rods, but if the curtaining is lightweight (good old fleece lining again) that might solve that problem. The only drawback (!) could be swinging the rod back into closed position if you were actually going out and on the wrong side of the door.

Sounds like you need a curtain pole with a swing arm - you don't need to pull the curtain open to open the door - if you can open the door into your hall then you will be able to swing the arm of the curtain pole.
Our old side door was in a very narrow passage way and drafty and you couldn't use a normal non swing rod for the door - but a swing arm rod was good.0 -
