Polypropylene Carpet?

A local carpet supplier has suggested Cormar Sensations polypropylene carpet as a more luxurious alternative to their 80% wool carpet. The price is more or less the same, but the PP carpet feels much softer.

I always thought wool was superior to man-made, and I hear man-made fibre flattens more easily, but the property is occupied by just two people.

Is the PP carpet a good choice?

  • Personally I would steer clear of PP and stick with wool. You are correct PP is a man made fibre and is one of the least 'resilient' of fibres, looks nice when new but crushes very easily. Wool every time :j

I recently bought carpet, and the staff told me that polypropylene is not as hard wearing, it can be worn out after 10 years. But a lot of people buy it because a) it is significantly cheaper and b) they get bored of the carpet and change it anyway every 5-10 years, so why pay more. Paying as much for plastic as for wool? Sounds barking to me. I suspect they are making a bigger profit on the plastic carpet.
