Asus Laptop killilng chargers

My daughter is on her 4th charger for her laptop. Guy at computer shop said laptop was killing her chargers. Does this sound right? I'm thinking if we get a new battery it would help but don't want to spend out on battery if we actually need a new laptop.

Its possible that the laptop is killing the chargers although I can't really see how, I'm not sure the battery is the issue but if you want to put your mind at rest remove the battery and see if the charger still stops working.

Is it the charger not working at all? Does it not charge the battery? Does it power the laptop at all? How long dies one last?

The big question is.
Are the chargers the original manufacturers versions, or did the original die/get damaged and replaced with a third party one?

I ask as AFAIK there is no way a laptop should be able to repeatedly kill chargers designed for it (normally the original chargers are specced for the device they are supplied with and have various safety features to stop them dying from a fault in the machine).
However third party ones may not be able to supply the correct current or voltage for the laptop and that will often shorten their lifespan, completely ignoring the quality of some third party chargers which can be very low.

It sounds unlikely that the laptop is doing it. More likely the battery in the laptop.

Since these can usually be replaced depending on how old the laptop is, i'd maybe think about trying a new battery. If the laptop is 3-4 years old, you might aswell just try a new laptop in general (just my opinion). Failing that, check the mains where you're plugging it in (if its the same place it dies each time, it may be that, wild guess this though)

My hunch, the chargers are being over-driven and are cheapo ones working harder than they can handle. If you've been through several, it really would suggest maybe they're just rated lower than the laptop needs, so overheating. If you've been through several, it also suggests they're not the manufacturer's own supplied/recommended chargers as they're pricier (for a reason, it seems).

Which model asus is it?? Then we can find out the correct spec charger and you can check all the replacements you've been supplied have been the correct rating...some shops'll sell you what they've got, rather than what you need.

As above, run the lappy without the battery in it, does the charger still get hot/stop working ?? If not, quite poss the battery has been drawing too much to try and charge itself....

Thanks to you all for your thoughts/comments. Now got correct details in front of me - it's not an Asus! It's an ADVENT ROMA 2000 C900 W7 bought December 2009. Original charger came with laptop and lasted until summer 2012. Subsequent 3 bought cheap off the internet. Do not know if she checked spec and ratings. Seem to work OK for a couple of months and then just die and won't charge the battery. I do not know other details but will try and get info from her. Sounds like we need to get genuine Advent charger? I would rather try this first than spending on a new laptop.

Even with the correct, exact spec i had many "replacement" chargers blow up, some after a few months and some after a few days, always damaged in the same spot.

Finally managed to find a genuine one (Acer supplied a 2.15a with netbook which seems rare and it's the 3.42a which is most common- even Acer themselves nolonger stock the correct one!) and getting on okay so far.

Check the latest power supply for voltage and amp.

Chances are it is the battery. How long does the laptop last for when unplugged from the mains

Another bog-standard 20v 3.25A charger, common on advent, p-b, etc... I've bought several PSUs from these guys before for different laptops, the only one I had a problem with they replaced without fuss
