I pay £47 a month for gas and electricity (am single with 2-bed semi). So was surprised when I was refunded £200 recently from nPower. Then when logging onto my account, discovered they wanted to raise my Direct Debit to £61/month.
I rang to ask why, when I was obviously not even using an average of £47-worth and was told the new figure was computer-generated and did not take into account any refund I may have had.
I was then able to arrange that my DD would not increase.
So my advice is: check your account regularly online and ring them if you're not in agreement with any new charges.
If you're interested how I keep my usage so low, it's because I eat mainly raw food, set the heating to a low but adequate temperature, and in the evenings, snuggle up on the sofa with a microwave-heated bag and covered with a duvet. Heavenly!

Obviously they have one of those new and very clever computers that thinks entirely for itself rather than doing exactly what somebody programmed it to do!0

I have a similar issue with nPower. They have estimated my gas use for the next 12 months at slightly over twice what I have used in the last 12 months......
I wonder what they know that I don't?0 -

Just bear in mind that Npower increased their prices on 26th November, so unless you are on a fixed tariff, your bills are unlikely to be exactly the same as they were last year.I pay £47 a month for gas and electricity (am single with 2-bed semi). Although the increase probably wouldn't use the £200 credit which you accrued on your current DD its still worth keeping an eye on as I doubt that it will be the only rise they inflict on us this winter.
We don't want you back here next year saying that Npower want the £200 back from you because you have been underpaying your usage!
They are enjoying the interest free loan which you and millions of others are giving themThey have estimated my gas use for the next 12 months at slightly over twice what I have used in the last 12 months......
I wonder what they know that I don't?"Dont expect anybody else to support you, maybe you have a trust fund, maybe you have a wealthy spouse, but you never know when each one, might run out" - Mary Schmich0
