  • I personally think once the novelty of the laptop wears off, your daughter will be wishing she had a faster computer that coped better with multi-tasking, playing games and the like but, anyway, have a look at this other similar thread. Plenty of suggestions there.
    The true cost of something is what you give up to get it.
  • Yeah, i've got to agree with that. ALL windows operating systems get slower the more you install and the more you use them - this is more noticable on laptops because they usually have 5400rpm harddisks inside them (compared to the 7200rpm + equivalents in a desktop. For a tiny bit more money you could invest in a really nice Core 2 Duo dell desktop PC. It may not be stylish like a laptop - but it'll be more usable for longer.

    Also consider that when the machine is out of warranty, the laptop is expensive to buy replacement parts for, where the Dell (or whatever desktop) will be replacable / upgradable for a lot less.

    If you absolutely MUST go for a laptop, PLEASE dont buy a Celeron! :D Got Core Duo all the way! (This is my third post on similar topic - Intel will be loving me!)
