Would I be Eligible?

Hi All,

I'm a 40 year old who has never claimed any sort of benefit before but it has been suggested to me I try and get a car through Mobility Allowance.

I understand that to be able to do this you have to be eligible for the higher rate disability living allowance.

I have Cerebal Palsy. It is not severe but it affects both hands and my left side, mainly my foot. I walk with a limp and have insoles in one shoe. My foot gets tired and sore easily and I don't find a lot of walking easy. My knees have a lot of issues and have been told I will need replacements soon. I have problems with my arms/hands and find carrying bags difficult at times.

Because this is my first time looking into this I was just wondering what kind of disability you needed to have to be awarded help. I don't want to waste anyones time and I know these forums are great so am just looking for some advice.

To boil down the rules which I think may apply.
    You can get HRM if:
It would put your health at risk to walk.
You cannot walk 30m or so, slowly, without significant pain or discomfort.

If your condition wouldn't be worsened, and you can, then no, you are not entitled.
You would not be entitled to low rate mobility - that's seperate and for people who have difficulty finding their way around.
