Hi,hope to be moving house shortly but the house i'm buying doesn't
have any BT sockets,it has a line going in(overhead),with the old phone wires
hanging loose. In order to transfer my BT phone & BB internet, will BT
put in a phone socket for free?If not, what is the cost? Can i just get
a private firm to fit one? Mike

Standard BT installation and connection charge is £124.99.
The cable up to the master socket is BT property and it is illegal for anyone else to install or tamper with a BT line prior to the NTE5 master socket.0 -

Surely thats if there is no line to the property, this house HAS an existing line going into the house, but has the old,pre-socket,wiring.I doubt if BT could connect a phone up to them!
To normally qualify for free connection, both the outside and inside wiring plus the master socket need to be in situ and working.
When you apply , you can choose to spread the cost of your connection. You would normally make a payment upfront of £27.49, which includes a facility fee of £12.46, followed by four further payments of £27.49 which will be added to your first four quarterly (three-monthly) bills. .0 -
Is there a box of any kind?
It's only two wires
If there in no box you will have to get BT to do it.0 -

I'm sure BT will be pleased to come along and connect a master socket for you.
OTOH, I found the below thread interesting reading.
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=423013Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0
